The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

The only way this window could have been any worse would have been if Bear had been on here for it... quoting Wikipedia like he knew who the players were and position they played!

Sasa goes to Albion scores 20+ they go up, we go down scoring less than 30 and some will still back Fosun.

Positives:

Actually surprised at the volume of new signings, even if we're short in some areas.
Guedes and Silva have gone
JSL still here (for now!) and we've actually got another decent looking forward in
Lopez looks good
Arias has some talent

Negatives:

Incredibly threadbare in key areas
On the surface, some proper downgrades on key departures
Most of the existing squad nowhere near the required level

The club have done one of two things:

1. Some genius scouting and recruitment of little known players who they can then move on for more of that lovely profit in 12-18 months
2. Tried to penny pinch by signing players not used to this league/not good enough for this league/both for less money than we've actually made in player sales and just hope they work out

Let's be honest, it's not going to be number 1, is it? I'm not writing any of the new lads off at such an early stage but it's an incredibly risky strategy yet again.

And as many people on here have stated several times, eventually that risk isn't going to work, and with a dearth of quality or discipline or leadership in the dressing room amongst the existing members of the squad, this could be the time when mismanagement finally bites us on the arse.

The midfield is a huge concern numbers wise - and every other area of the pitch is a concern quality wise.

If these new guys don't make a very quick positive impression, we're fucked.

Happy days.

So our best players are our 2 CM, who it seems will need to play every minute of every game.

Don't worry, Andre will probably be off in January once his bust up with Vitor means he gets benched for JRB and then João Gomes will be next summer's sacrificial lamb

So how do you guys reckon the wage bill compares to end of last season ?
I'm not sure finance is the main problem, it seems to me the managed decline of our playing staff means potential good players who would improve us ( or at least allow us to stand still) and young quality players who could come here and hope for a big move in a few seasons has put them off coming here. We look a basket case atm. I think we've tried to spend some of the money raised but they just don't want to come here, so we've ended up over spending on average at best players.

My main moan is it's madness to only have 2 CMs. Bellegarde doesn’t really count and Munetsi definitely doesn't count. New guy could count but he's clearly needed in his main position so it seems a bit FM to count him.

Aside from that I'm team Jinky but very much hoping the new signings work out of course - too soon to properly judge as individuals, certainly can't write any one off yet.

Without Cunha and RAN and even Semedo carrying the ball it feels a bit worrying.

JSL staying means we will see less of the >13 foot strike partnership but I am here for when it happens. Lump it in boys!

Perhaps Vitor has been working on 4ATB a bit in training? I dunno. People know a lot more than me and also keep up with what he says in interviews etc.
