The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Nothing like judging a player over half a season. It's either "hit" or "miss" isn't it?

Not really what I said though overall is it as I mentioned the summer signings having some clearer long term project/development to them. Muntesi isn't that though is he. It's credible that they identified he could do a different role here than he has seemingly ever played elsewhere, but then to me and many others he looks to lack the technical skills and ability to actually do that successfully. I am not sure that looks like it's going to improve given his profile? And his role isn't like the Ayew brothers or Shane Long who weren't prolific scorers but whose value was based on their work rate and overal commitment to help the team, spell for other strikers etc and press, as we are actively trying to get Muntesi into direct scoring positions.

Munetsi is a properly weird footballer. A big part of our 6 match winning run, 2 important goals to get us 2 points at Molineux and could be useful going forward but if you can't accept that he might just not be everyone's cup of tea then you're just being difficult for the sake of it.

If it had been an existing player who had played the role Munetsi did nobody would be having it. Imagine if Hwang had somehow managed to stay injury free for long enough to miss the amount of chances that Marshall did in such a short space of time. There would've been a meltdown!

Personally I'm hoping that he's seen as more of an option in the double pivot going forward and that we solve the inside forward problems in the transfer market. We definitely need more central midfielders anyway, especially with the way we sub out players on a yellow card now. Bringing Munetsi on fresh at about the 60-70 minute mark could be quite useful in a lot of scenarios, he's got the energy to get into the opposition box and affect play from deep and he's got the strength, size and tactical discipline to sit in a pivot and defend well if we're hanging on to a lead.

We're going to need at least 4 players just to stand still (I'm glossing over the fact we won't get the same quality as Cunha and RAN)
2 10s and 2 FB/WBs.
That's before we look at bench options.
Not convinced Hugo or young Gomes will be seen as regular starters by Vitor.

The Athletic are reporting that we'll "listen to offers for" Guedes, Hwang, Doyle & Boubacar Traore.

No real surprises there. Still, you can only sell what people want.

I think it's pretty clear that we'll 'listen to offers' for anyone. It was only a few weeks ago that it was reported that we wanted Aït-Nouri to sign a new contract. If a club came in for André they'd happily turn him over for £40-45M and call it a success.

Great journalism.

They’ll probably run an exclusive that Sam Johnstone might be leaving, next.

Problem we have is if a player says he wants to leave we have little power. I think we would fight for Andre or Joao but ultimately if they said they want to leave, we would have little choice. Some of that is of our own making with our lack of true ambition but also it's our selling point to players...impress here and you will get that move to a big club.

From Fabs, RAN said yes to City a week ago. Tapping up fuckers...

Doyle will have a few Championship clubs looking at him.
Guedes will depend on Jorge.
Hwang will have Euro clubs wanting him but I reckon there will be a huge gap in valuation.
Traore will go off on a loan

If we couldn't give Guedes away 9 months ago and he has, shock horror, been absolutely fucking shit and a complete prick since then, scoring a whole 2 league goals in the process, we aren't giving him away this year either.

Who is our most unsellable player this summer, i.e we must keep hold of? Probably has to be Agba I reckon

André & João Gomes IMO.

If Doyle & Boubacar are off we need some serious back up in that area as well. Munetsi looks okay there but Bellegarde isn't a long term option.

Well yes, but I meant in the sense of all of our players are for sale so who represents the hardest to replace against potential income they'd generate. If we get £50m for Gomes or Andre, we know they are off. Can't think of a better way to frame my question but plugging our back line has been problematic for quite a while now!

I think if we lost either Andre or Joao this summer I'd put a bet on us going down. Losing either of them would weaken us massively and they would be very, very difficult to replace.
