The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Big miss but somehow I am slightly more confident in how we will deal with him going with Vitor in charge.

Utter blind faith i know.
Not completely blind, he’s obviously had a hand in bringing the players in in January. One has been exceptional, one fits what VP wanted even if he looks somewhat limited and the jury is out on the third as he’s had little game time.

There has been quite a lot of chat about him potentially signing a new contract hasn't there? So it's a story that he isn't?

I don't understand the angst?

Early start so I’m maybe a little more grumpy than normal but it’s not anything new.

Not my money but I’d be offering Semedo a 2 year deal on current terms. He’s one of the most competent players in his position in the division and if rumours of £100k per week are true we could easily spend that amount on someone who isn’t fit for purpose.
RAN, Semedo, Sarabia and Cunha all leaving is going to take some doing to replace without a significant decline in our ability to compete next season.

Absolutely would be signing Semedo too, he's been a calm head since VP came in, changing captain again is just another issue we don't need to create.

I'm certainly of the view that captain is far more important than fans think, as it isn't tangible to us on a day to day or match day level.

Also, obviously he's a very consistent performer!

I don't think we will miss Semedo (but I also think he is a good player).

We get virtually nothing out of him going forward, which isn't good enough for a wing-back. Defensively, he is generally reliable, but a right wing-back often has plenty of cover and is rarely isolated like a right-back would be.

Semedo is obviously a much better all-round footballer than Doherty, but you could argue (quite easily) that Doherty was more effective as a RWB.

I expect Rodrigo Gomes to be much more effective as well, and I think we could find a decent alternative at a relatively low price if need be.

Concerns about losing another captain are valid, but hard to comment on his influence in that sense.

If we're talking about needing a more attacking wing back and Vitor preferring a RB as the right centre back, then I'd rather Semedo was used there as part of the back 3 over Doc. Might be something to try in the next two games with Rodrigo at RWB. That's what I'd do, if Semedo could be persuaded to stay. Been a good captain and my view is he'll be a loss (albeit have more faith in Vitor replace than his predecessors)

Thank feck we have fans like him on social
Media informing us of the latest inside info. I’d have never have guessed that with 6 days of the season left, a player who is out of contract looks set to leave the club.
I bet Carragher will have him first up on the overlap fan debate this week to break the news.

Azzopardi is a clown but the bigger issue here is that everyone knows that the person feeding him information is Matt Hobbs. The first time that happened years ago Hobbs should've been hauled before the board. It's still happening now.

Hobbs needs to go. He's clearly able to identify talent but he's got a shocking lack of professionalism and his backing of O'Neil was a major red flag. Someone else can do that job as well or even better than he does without calling referees cunts, leaking information to children on Twitter and embarrassing himself by waffling on about qualifying for Europe when the rest of the club's hierarchy clearly don't hold that ambition.

Perfect appraisal imo. He's an excellent defender and a good footballer, but would likely be our top earner next season, and just doesn't offer enough going forward, particularly if we're wedded to 3ATB

We tried Semedo as the right centre back before. It didn't go well.

Obviously Semedo doesn't have enough goals or assists but I think it's a bit short sighted to say he doesn't do anything going forward, he's excellent at getting us up the field. Some might say that isn't enough but along with his defending, speed and athleticism, I think we'll miss him more than most.

So good at retaining possession too

Are we going to get bent over again regarding this Cunha sale. Liverpool done us for Jota haven't we fucking learnt from it.

We have put the payment schedule into the clause of the fee which appears to be 1 large payment followed by 2 in the future.
They can change that but then we can then change the total fee.

I would say the 3 payments is pretty standard these days, infact installments will be in 95% of deals. We just made the Jota deal as if Liverpool had purchased him via the Littlewoods catalogue.

We, like other teams, will borrow the future fees from some dodgy looking loan company.

No because terms of payment have already been agreed in the Cunha contract. Additional sums due if they want to renegotiate the terms.
Edit: What Kenny said

Another picture of Semedo’s house online with removals outside. Legit? Not sure
Even so I think it’s a big loss, I think he’s been a key component since VP took over.
Has been captain by example ie performs at a solid level.
