The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

The rebuild is significant... but the money IS there!

We all know what the stumbling block could/ would/ will be...

The glimmer of hope appears to be that Vitor is at the table when it comes to transfers rather than him just accepting whatever Hobbs/Shi chuck in the squad.

Should be a more structured approach this summer...SHOULD.

Yeah, Vitor is no gimp/patsy like Lage or GoN... but that then brings me on to my next doomsday scenario and Vitor just tells Jeff to shove it after he's moved the goalposts on summer transfer budget for the fourth time!

Definitely a possibility. Vítor wants to establish himself as a Premier League manager, if he feels Jeff is selling him short and potentially harming his reputation by gambling with relegation then he could easily leave.

Going off recent history...Lopetegui was already bitching about the goalposts being moved via his mate.

Heard nothing about a pissed up Vitor complaining to anyone that will listen in the Crown about Jeff being a twat...so I will take that as things are still good.

Let’s have it right, most teams at our level lose a couple of their best players every season.

I know we think we’re special and different but better clubs than us will lose key players this season.

I guess where we’ve fallen down recently is not investing that money (and let’s face it, we’re gonna have a bit in the kitty) back into the first team.

It’s absolutely imperative we do that this time.

And I have a feeling that Vitor might be the right man to make sure that happens.

I definitely don't feel like every club at our level loses 2 key players every season.

Let's face it, if Fabio had had his issues with another team, we'd all be thinking 18m euros would be a good punt.
Hopefully it's true and goes through quickly.

When we're benchmarked against CL teams then the fans have a right to be pissed off, the club set the bench mark and not the fans so don't blame the fans when the club doesn't live up to the benchmark it set.

Depends what you consider our level, I guess.

Brentford will lose their keeper, MBueno, maybe Wissa and maybe their Manager.

And that’s their level.

I hate it but this is the reality when you have good players and a shit season.

Any team with decent players do...just some are better at replacing them.

See Brighton as the best example.
Bournemouth will be another to lose 2 or 3 this summer.

Forest might lose a couple this summer, with MGW being the main one.

None of those clubs mentioned lose at least 2 key players every season, they'll always have a summer or two where they hang onto everyone they want to keep. It's literally built into our foundation that we need to raise £100M+ from sales just to stand still every Summer.

It's completely unsustainable.

Most fans aren't pissed off, they're fine with it.

But it’s completely sustainable - ask Brighton.

As widely said, the problem is not losing a couple of players, it’s correctly replacing them.

That’s the challenge.

The Guardian are reporting that we value him at £50m.
Anything in the region of that figure and I don't think we can argue with them selling.

The issue now is, that's your top goalscorer and your top assister out the door within the first week after the season ending. Their contribution on the field will need to be replaced - and that's on top of the amount of work already needed to balance the squad.

I think we (and Vitor) are going to be disappointed come the opening game of next season. I just don't see us signing the number of players that we all agree we need. We'll of course go through the "you have to trust the club, give them time etc etc" circular debate as the window drags on - but Shi, Hobbs etc have a major job this summer. I don't have much faith, but hope I'm wrong.

I have zero faith in it, really don't see much happening unless all these outgoings coincide with an incoming new owner.

I’m with Jinky, we’ll manage to Jeff it up, spend all summer chasing one player, then panic and buy overpriced players in positions we don’t need at the end of the window, or buy U14 prospects for the future
