The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

What a weird message.

Doesn’t actually say he’s leaving or he’s left.

“Transparent”? Jog on.

Obviously we're all just reading between the lines in our own way.

But it looks to me a little bit like the club were in denial rather than Nelson messing them about. He did a goodbye video on the pitch FFS!

The guy has played for us for 5 tough years, has been one of our most consistent performers for the last 3, has been our club captain and the best you can come up with is 'Jog on'? How fucking ungrateful.

He wants us to do well, and get to the level we should be at.

It's vacuous platitudes that all footballers roll out when they leave (except for Ruben obviously)

Not Nelson's responsibility, but his transparency obviously didn't motivate the club to get its arse in gear and replace him, and reach any kind of 'level' apart from keep that of relegation candidates!

it's all in the past tense. Saying he will always love us and miss us is pretty clear imo?

The transparency will always be between him and the club. I don't know anyone who discusses their contract in the public domain.

I’m not ungrateful at all.

He was decent for us, not outstanding, we paid a fortune for him and he was on big money.

Waited to see who offered him the most money before committing to anything, which is totally his prerogative.

But, as you pointed out, he was our captain and could have been a bit more honest as to his intentions. I’m fairly sure he knew he was going long before now.

Anyway, we move on.

He recorded a goodbye message on the pitch, moved out of his house in Wolverhampton, and when his contract expired, didn't sign a new one.

It's Wolves that haven’t been honest with us as fans.

Absolute bollocks; if the club weren’t planning as if he wouldn’t return, that is the club’s failing, not Nélson’s.

“Decent” ffs. How he isn’t considered in the same breath as the likes of Jonny and Boly is beyond belief. Proper professional, proper defender, proper man.

I really liked him and his contributions, he did have his shortcomings of course as did every player we've had. People will always point to his lack of goals and assists and his occasional brain fart at the back post, while not giving enough credit to his injury record, pace, athleticism, ability to get us up the pitch quickly, one on one defending. Never any strops either.

Prior to their injuries Boly and Jonny were imperious. No weaknesses like Semedo who was poor in the final third and regularly beaten in the air at the back post. Obviously they made errors but not the same ones time and again. No sleight on him not being on a par with them as they were two of our best defenders, probably the best, we’ve had in fifty years. Semedo certainly improved in his final two years and I wish he was staying but he’s nowhere near the player Boly or Jonny were.
