The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Perhaps we will be playing 1 striker and the new lad is actually back up/competition. We've been conditioned so hard into thinking we aren't capable of having backups :D

On that note - 1 CM formation?

Has there been any news on what's happening with Matheus Mané? Is he injured?

Scored for the U21s on Friday against Blackburn. Just not in the squad. Since he signed his pro contract they’ve basically stopped putting him in matchday squads for first team

That's true. Of our own making though obviously.

Another reason why we should have kept Doyle, I'm sure he'd have rather been 3rd choice and sat on our bench than sat on Blues bench!
Nail on the head. The homegrown situation with the squad needs addressing ASAP. I appreciate things like this can sound all "reform", but I've personally always believed an English professional football club should have a healthy dose of English/British players within the squad. You lose 'something' without it - and at the moment, we're on the bare bones.

Doyle, albeit a player you wouldn't want starting every week in the PL, was a reasonable enough option off the bench - and he's an actual central midfielder. The fact we've sent him out and then been unable to replace him within the following two or so months is incredible, really.

Continued gross mismanagement from everyone involved.

Could you imagine us doing what palace did with guehi?

We'd have sold him really early in the window and not replaced him and then panicked yesterday

We ALWAYS do it backwards, we should secure the replacement first THEN move the player on. The other way around just exposes us to risks we could easily mitigate

He’s not injured but he is extremely frustrated or at least he was after the Lens friendly. Was in the same room as him after the game with Jon Hunter Barrett who is head of academy and he definitely wasn’t happy. Was told to keep his head up but must be hard to do when he was spoken about as if he was going to get minutes this year but Chirewa who we know isn’t ever going to be good enough is ahead of him.

This is very similar to what I’ve heard

It's another baffling decision. There were other clubs after him, wasn't there? So we pulled out all the stops to keep him and to persuade him to stay - then stick him back in the under 21's. It just makes absolutely no sense, what-so-ever. Difficult to point the finger at anyone other than Vitor for this one, as he's the guy picking the matchday squads.

His pro deal isn’t even that long (first one can’t be), so he’ll just fuck off at the end of that one you’d imagine

There was interest from Germany but he signed a 2 year contract on the basis that he would be around the first team and get minutes.

So we've signed 7 players (jsl included), and got rid of a lot of high paid dross.
Cunha was a big loss, but then again, could we have kept mr tantrum, see Isak.
This was clearly the wankiest transfer window, or bay window after it closing for the trump cup.
Players like arias, barely got a holiday at all, so many negotiations were in limbo, and players heads turned from their original destination.
It's been a player power window.
Not just Isak and Wissa, but so many players stamping their foot at the last minute of long negotiations, saying noooo, i want to go somewhere else instead.
So, personally "i'm not over the moon brian", but neither am i reaching for the razor blades.
I don't like Fosun, but applause for telling the geordies to fuck off, three times over JSL. Especially as what seems a majority of twf lads, thought he would go, as soon as Tolu looked anything like happening.
So, Tolu, i don't know yet. I think Jackson, Arias, Lopez and Kreji will make it good here, even though i'm not sure about Agba, and Toti needs to give up the capataincy.
My worry is at left back.
Wolfe is still a grey mist for me, even his recent appearance as sub passed me by.
Hugo gives me night mares, can get amongst em up front but his defending and defensive sense of positioning is just shite.
As for vitor, now all the crap is over i think he'll get back into the team and sort it.
Ok that's enough about transfers, i'm going for a lie down.
