Trump

I've also read about the nuclear disarmament thing in the 90s whereby Ukraine gave up it's nukes for assurances by major players (US a big part of that) that they'd have security.

Spin forward 30 odd years and here we are. You can see how anti US feeling in Ukraine could start to increase, and then you get into unintended consequences around things like 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend '. Who knows where this could end up and what future terrorist attacks are being set in motion today.

I am sure the Ukranians will have a lot of thinking to do, about who are their real friends.

Nord Stream 2 never delivered any gas, while Russia suspended gas deliveries through Nord Stream 1 from August 31, 2021, quoting "maintenance needs". This situation became permanent after the destruction of three of the pipelines in September 2022 and sanctions linked to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Which was all after the invasion of Crimea and depending on Russian gas undoubtedy helped the Russian's finance the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Nord Stream 2 never supplied gas. The revenue was from the original pipeline.

Yes, but after the invasion of Crimea, Germany should never have done a deal with Russia to build it and of course Russia was already supplying gas to Germany, through the Freindship pipeline that later on went to be called Nord Stream 1.

It is made a lot worst in my opinion, because Merkel allowed a deal to go through with a German citizen that was in the East German Stassi, called Mattias Warnig. He was a Russian spy and giving important information to Russia about German Bank systems. He later went to live in Russia and became the top person at Gazprom. By getting rid of all German nuclear reactors and then becoming dependant on Russian gas, which was run by a German who had spied against Germany for Russia, is insane in my opinion.

Worth bearing in mind that the MoS has always been editorially distinct from the Daily Mail - and often more moderate (while still being RW)

More like a Sunday version of the Telegraph.

And on the subject of Trump and his friends; I saw a Cybertruck in the flesh for the first time yesterday in Dubai - it was fugly. And the driver looked like a fucking moron.

Big announcement tonight from trump, general consensus on social media ( I know) is he’s pulling the US out of NATO and American forces out of Europe.
No doubt this post will age like milk outside in the sun.

Looks like hes ending US

It appears hes going to end sanctions on Russia and normalise relations....that's as good as siding with them

The FTSE reached a record high today didn’t it before slipping back a little.

You could hear the argument that his stance was America First even if you disagreed with it. It's impossible to argue rationale behind that decision other than pure loyalty to Putin

The US Senate has confirmed Linda McMahon as the nation’s next education secretary, entrusting the former wrestling executive with a department marked for dismantling by Donald Trump.

Tory MP Graham Stuart (no, me neither)

We have to consider the possibility that President Trump is a Russian asset.

If so, Trump’s acquisition is the crowning achievement of Putin’s FSB career – and Europe is on its own

With the tariff spat between US, China and Canada, might we see a US/Russia trade deal?
