Wolves Women Thread

Yesterday's win for Forest means Wolves will finish 2nd, which is a decent achievement, but it always feels like there's another team prepared to invest more in their players.

Of this year's 20 mens PL sides, 16 of their women's teams will be playing at a higher level than Wolves next year, the exceptions being Fulham, Bournemouth and Brentford.

Sheffield Utd confirmed relegated today from the championship and will be in the North given there is no other relegated side. And the info I have heard is they have already been discussing staying with their current full time model. So another big hurdle for Wolves.

So how does that work? At what point do they have to bid for a Championship spot?

Presume ages ago so a bollocks move from whoever is running the show.

Yeah you have to make your intentions clear fairly early I think. Shocking

What I've been saying on this thread for a couple of years. The way we treat the Women's team isn't like the vast majority of PL teams do. We offer what's pretty much free ie use of facilities, but there's not real material input from the club. Even the manager getting a full time contract is the RAF paying for it. It's really poor and not about whether you are interested in the women's team or not, but about what a modern PL football club does

Unbelievably disappointing that. One of the criticisms they get in the Esports circuit is that they haven't actually built anything but just rebranded and purchased loads of other brands and teams, so for them to just wholly ignore a huge growing area that is actually football is extremely short sighted and annoying.

Terrible from the club. Really think once Macka leaves there's going to be a huge drop in quality of players because it's only the football staff keeping this club performing above itself like it has.

Just to be in contention this year was an amazing feat and shows how unambitious the top brass are.

OK. That's enough.

How can you do that to the players and all involved with our Women's football team in 2025?!

You insulted them all and even have a quote from Dan McNamara on your website stating:
“It’s a football club on a great, great journey and I’m just privileged to be part of it.”

You even have an Equality statement there stating:
''The aim of our Equality Policy is to promote our own equality objectives and in doing so, help to ensure that everyone associated to to Wolverhampton Wanderers, including employees, workers, community participants, players, fans and club partners is treated fairly and with respect.''

The following people should therefore hang their heads in shame and resign or look for another job.

Jeff Shi - Executive Chairman
Matt Hobbs - Sporting Director
Matt Wild - Director of Football Operations and Administration
Russell Jones - General Manager - Marketing and Commercial Growth
John Gough - Director
John Bowater - Director

E&S covering this now.

clubs also need to put together an application by February for a 'Tier 2 licence', which requires a substantial financial contribution to meet the promotion requirements around the ground, infrastructure and staffing, among a number of other requirements.

The Express & Star understands that Wolves could not commit to the cost of the application amid fears the men's first team could be relegated.

whatever the reasons, right or wrong, the moment they made the decision that should have been announced to all involved.

Just catching up on all this as it seems to be spreading like wildfire through social media with the club, quite rightly, being slammed.

What an appalling look from all concerned - and what a shocking way to do business.

As @Kenny quite rightly says - if you’ve made that call, own it & announce it at the point you’ve made the decision. What a bunch of fucking cowards.

Just wondering, what is the real cost of running a women's team at that promoted level?

One of the reason's the NWSL hasn't really taken off in the USA is because of the high cost of salaries and the women demanding equal pay.

If it's a business decision, and it looks like it is, then Fosun need to do some PR and explain the situation. Frankly, it would have been better explained before this came about so everyone knew the playing field they were on.

I'm not going to call it scandalous or anything like that until I know more facts but the one undeniable fact is that the women are playing under the banner of Wolverhampton Wanderers and they deserve better treatment than it appears they have got.

The fact the playing staff, manager, coaches & all involved with ‘Wolves women’ had no idea says it all. Imagine putting in all your efforts to achieve promotion, only to find out that IF it had happened, you wouldn’t have gone up anyway. It’s about as “scandalous” as it can get, really. Particularly when Shi, Fosun & all involved with the club preach all the #OnePack stuff.

It absolutely blows my mind how Jeff Shi can keep finding new ways to fuck things up.

It's not really that he fucks things up it's that he doesn't give a fuck beyond ensuring that we play in the PL with as little investment as possible. Things like fans and community are a necessary irritant and nothing more. Decisions like this won't be thought about for any longer than the 10 seconds it takes to make them
