Bournemouth 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

When you sell your best players for big money (or in RANs case give away) then you’re never going to replace like for like so you would normally sign several players to improve the general status of the squad. It was a bottom 6 squad last year and the star players have at best been replaced by mediocrity, so naturally it’s still relegation fodder.

Couple in that in the previous year we spent the money on R Gomes, Djigga, Johnstone and Lima (plus Meuyipou and Forbs) who aren’t even getting a look in. The year before Boubacar, Bueno, Bellegarde, Doyle, Gonzalez. This is a crazy amount of misses in the market.

There isn’t really anyone in the squad I’m that bothered about. I like Gomes and Andre but they aren’t match winners. Everyone else is bang average really and that’s the issue. I don’t think it’s particularly fixable either as you’d need 3 top players to walk straight in and they ain’t coming here and we wouldn’t pay anyway. Only hope is changing to a style where we just stink the place out and play for 1-0s. The manager hasn’t suggested he will do this so looks like the championship is beckoning unless we get a ton of mercenaries in January

The fact Lopez hasn’t featured much is alarming he really should’ve been up and running making a contribution.
We’ve now bitten of more than we can chew and won’t have enough time to fill the holes.

He's played 17 top flight league games in La Liga, anyone expecting an instant impact needs their bumps feeling.

The fact is he and Arias were never going to hit the ground running. Arias barely had a summer break so again expecting instantaneous results was never going to happen.

Obviously they may well deliver at some point this season, but with the rest of the team horribly short in numerous areas it's proper unlikely it'll happen any time before October or November.

This is of course all down to the truly appalling way we've been run as a club since Nuno left.

Not what I’m expecting but it’s a 100% what we need we absolutely cannot be carrying and be drip feeding players into the side.

We look like a group of players that have literally just met 5 minutes before the game. Poor organisation and communication. Very negative attitude. We are really lacking any leadership, particularly at the back. We've sold the spine of our team and thus far replaced them with spineless bargain basement players.

Lots of work to do in the next week, and I fear it's going to be a very long season. It also doesn't look like we can rely on the promoted teams being shit this year - they're getting points on the board early.

It feels like there's something not right in the squad at the moment, a few players with an eye on the exit door and a few wondering their fate when/if players come in. It is like watching 10 players going through the motions, predictable and robotic.

I’ve heard that Vitor has lost the dressing room somewhat. Players don’t feel fit enough. That type of things. I’m hoping that’s rubbish because if so you can’t let that go on too long.

And JSL wants to go, which you can see in the way he’s played even in pre season I think

Ah, that’s not good.

Re; JSL. I can understand why he’d want to move, but I’d still be quite disappointed if he pushes for it in these last few days. That would properly fuck us over when we’re already massively up against it.

Concerning but would make sense if true.

I normally think of myself as a happy clapper so this is the most despondent I have felt in a long time. Atrocious across the pitch. Our best player after Joao was Santiago Bueno. We have exactly one idea for how to score - a repeat of our last goal against Brentford - and that means having Munetsi on the pitch.
A week ago I still believed that VP could be a good prem manager. Doesn't look that way right now.

This is a major reason for the situation we’re now in. Apart from Andre, who was a Brazil international so a fairly safe bet, our success rate has been dreadful. These are the signings you need some success with so that they can step up when you sell/lose the likes of Neto, Cunha, RAN, Semedo and even Kilman and Sarabia. It’s this essential recruitment the likes of Brighton get right. Our early success was down to bringing in players good enough to go straight into the first XI and most of that was due to Mendes. Outside of players from his stable our recruitment has been largely woeful and I see absolutely no reason things are going g to suddenly change in the next few days.

How is Vitor losing the dressing room after only two games and the club putting his mate in charge of recruitment?

If true, holy shit, they are about to enter a whole new level of ineptitude when it blows up.

I really hope that's not true, but I have seen elsewhere that Andre isn't happy, seemed crazy that we left one of our best players on the bench if he wasn't carrying a knock.

Andre, J Gomes and JSL all know they can be playing in far better sides.
They know full well they’re surrounded by inadequate players.
The first 2 team selections have been bizzare bordering on incompetent management.
In our situation it’s simple what’s the best 11 we can field it doesn’t involve Doc over Mos, it doesn’t involve JRB over Andre and by god it doesn’t involve MM over Lopez.
I don’t agree with putting players on the bench to ease them in, you’re on the bench to make a difference.
We’ve looked undercooked all pre season and the start of this season.
Gave City far too much space last week and were a yard of it first half yesterday.
VP is a cut above GON however going back into last season we have no win in 6 lost 5 of them.
Of the 10 he won last season 4 were against the relegated sides who were hopeless.
2 were against spurs and Man Utd who’d put the PL very much on the back burner.
The other was v Bournemouth who were down to 10 men for large parts.
The Villa win and Man Utd wins at home were the big successes, beat West Ham also who were poor.
He did a good job but in hindsight keeping us up last season really didn’t need a miracle just someone of reasonable competence.

I saw someone post this morning that their daughter was born in May and Wolves still haven’t won in her lifetime 😂 (I know we’ve had a close season since then). He then followed it up by posting this:

Premier League form since May -

Played - 6
Won - 0
Drawn - 1
Lost - 5
Goals scored - 3
Goals conceded - 13
Average xGoals - 0.80
Average xGoals Against - 1.52

And we’ve weakened the squad in various areas. Relegation fodder.

I hope it was Vitor who kept us up last season and not Cunha.
Well Cunha missed a big chunk of the run that kept us up so...

As bad as it is right now I think trying to rewrite history on what Vitor did last season is wrong.
We were a broken club, absolute zero discipline, a club captain lost his head and we were heading in 1 direction.
Fixing the shit show left behind by GO was way more than just sort the issues out on the pitch.

Agree with all that.

Still, two games out of two he’s made some odd calls as far as this season goes.

Needs to take a breath and get back to basics. Starting with just picking his best players from the start.
