Coronavirus

Pinged early this morning. 8 days isolation apparently. No idea how that’s come about as I’m self-employed and haven’t worked since last Tuesday as taking a couple of weeks off to decorate the house. Haven’t scanned in anywhere since Goodwood the previous weekend.

The wife just pinged a moment ago. 7 days. Linked or coincidence? I dunno, I’m getting confused.

Does make you think. I’d just be hit with loss of earnings but luckily I’d written that off to get on with other stuff for a couple of weeks anyway.

As for the missus, funnily enough, she said just last night, “I’m just amazed with so many off at Addenbrooke’s no one in our department has been pinged yet. It’s going to put the cat amongst the pigeons when that happens”….,,,

Can't she avoid it with the key NHS worker thing they introduced at the weekend?

Good question, she’s on that one. In contact with her boss and Occy Health looking for clarification as we speak.

Fair cop. Apologies for the confusion. It looks as though a similar process might take place with that one too, though: Can anti-HBs levels following vaccination decline over time?
No worries mate, easy mistake to make, it was posted in a coronavirus thread after all.

In terms of the science behind the hep b vaccine and the blood test etc, no idea. The process was delayed by the pandemic but they said that shouldn't have made a difference. There were 7 of us on my team who had it, in 5 the the blood test showed they had immunity, then me who they said had limited immunity and then as I mentioned the bloke who had zero immunity.

As I said they just said the policy was to give a top up and then not do another blood test as it's likely if I hadn't developed immunity after that I wouldn't anyway, I left the job for an office job a couple of months after so I wasn't really bothered. I don't know what they did with the bloke who had zero immunity in the end.

So

So essentially it appears it can be done, although the guidance is a bit muddled (no surprises there).

It appears as long as no symptoms, have daily tests, and your job is not one that can be carried out at home, then you can work. She has to go in later today for the first test (seems odd to me but something about it being quicker (within the ‘system’)) and hopefully back to work properly tomorrow.

However, it has been made absolutely clear this is for work only and she must self isolate in all other situations.

That’s the long-awaited multiple-rearranged weekend in London buggered then.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

First they excluded the unvaccinated from society..............

You can't choose whether you are a Jew you can't choose your gender, you can't choose your ethnicity, you can't choose your sexuality. You do choose whether to be vaccinated. Not having any of this alienation/victimisation crap.

Get jabbed, don't get jabbed, 100% support the freedom of choice, but don't complain if that decision has consequences

I've been known to trot out this quote on occasion to make a point but it really doesn't apply to our present situation imo, this pandemic is unprecedented in recent history, we just have to suck up things we don't like for now till we get some sort of control of it.....its going to take some time unfortunately.

You can choose whether you are a Trade Unionist or Socialist though can't you.

Not sure what relevance Thatcher and Blair did to those has to the current situation

It's about the lead up to the Holocaust mate, the Nazis purged the Trade Unionists and Socialists first. The poem was written in 1946.

OK, ta. Point still holds re vaccines though unless you are drawing parallels between that and 1930's Germany?

I totally get what your saying mate, we are in unprecedented times. I think everybody should be vaccinated and I totally disagree with those who don't. The problem for me is a govt dictating what individuals should do to their own bodies as a condition of participating in society.

It will always be something thats unprecedented that leads a govt to feel empowered to do something like this. It's a matter of degrees, first it's this, then what's next and what's after that. It's a slippery slope. I mean I might just be being hyper paranoid, but all the examples from history show that once freedoms start going, they aren't given back.
