Everton (H) 23/09 - Carabao Cup R3 Thread

I like the thought of Jeffrey Bungle Shi in goal but I'll also go with the Trumpton firemen as they were really good at putting out fires....
Dad's Army characters in attack with Mainwaring as captain leading the charge.

Bungle Shi,
Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew,
Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb, Frazer,
Jones, Godfrey
Mainwaring

Coach for the day: Captain Flack of Trumpton.
Pedant alert.
The trumpton firemen never put any fires out, they didn’t know how to animate fire in stop motion at that time.

Don’t believe everything you see on tv. Pugh, Pugh, Barley, McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grub were a fine bunch of men and don’t deserve such a slur!

Are you suggesting that the Trumpton team are about as quick in their reactions as some Wolves players eg Sa's effort to save the free kick when he could have walked over and reached up instead of diving?
Sa also looked about as mobile as Private Godfrey when he went down for the third goal.

Surely tonight is an opportunity to get the likes of Arias, Lopez, Tolu, Wolfe, Krejci match fit/up to speed against Premier League opposition. There's just no point picking Hwang or Munetsi.

Personally, would like to see Krejci in the back 3......... because we desperately need that to work out and improve us defensively
And bring Andre back into midfield........... because we desperately need Vitor to mend whatever has gone wrong between those 2
No problem resting Mosquera.......... because we desperately do not want him breaking again.

If we don't bother using a game like tonight to get Arias & Lopez acclimatised, then we may as well just forget any attempts to play football. There won't be any creativity in the team and all we'll be left with is smashing the ball up to Tolu's head to trying to pick up the flicks ons

------------------ Johnstone -----------------

--------S. Bueno -- Krejci -- Toti ----------

--------------Andre -- J. Gomes ------------
--R. Gomes ------------------------ Wolfe

------- Lopez ------------- Arias ---------
-------------------- Tolu-----------------------

Give minutes to Bellegarde, Jackson, Mane, JSL & Doherty

Absolutely the case. Get them used to working together. Is Mosquera injured? He pulled up and looked to the bench near the end.

Agree with this

Agree with this sentiment. While the doom and gloom is completely justified, we are where we are and this game has to be used to find something progressive.

I’m struggling to see an alternative to building bridges with Andre. While I imagine VP is doing the right thing for team discipline on one hand, we simply don’t have a viable alternative to trying to capitalise on one area of relative playing strength (although people struggling to discern between the merits of them and Neves and Moutinho might be harder to find than a a few months ago).

Imagine if we had a squad with more than 2 proper CMs.

Wild, I know.

I saw Steve Corica play well as a CM at least three times.

Butch Wilkins played (he got sacked as player/manager not long after), still absolutely brilliant

As was Paul McGrath the year after for Sheff Utd
