General Wolves News

Completely different subject; seeing a few threads on SM about early predictions for top 4 / bottom 3 PL next season and we're popping up pretty regularly in the latter...I imagine it's other team's fans seeing Cunha going and drawing conclusions from that!
Basically if you want to be a bit maverick and say that the three promoted teams WON'T all go down then we have to be one of the leading other candidates by default.

Most observers would likely think we are one of the next 1 or 2 worst teams after the 3 promoted clubs. If one of them somehow over-performs we are certainly candidates, despite the good things VP did from January onwards. Factor in the loss of Cunha, Semedo, and probably RAN, and our position seems to be even more precarious.

I wouldn't put any money on at 10/1 that we'll finish above Spurs again next season, so there's the only non-relegated team who finished below us doing a leapfrog.

I'm not overly worried right now, a) as I think the promoted clubs all have issues that aren't easily solved - Leeds and Burnley have proven managerial failures at this level and have committed to keeping them for now, and Sunderland look like a Minardi of the early 2000s F1 era, b) we don't know what will happen recruitment-wise, but we do appear to be backing the manager, and he's a good manager, c) we genuinely did look quite good after Christmas, this wasn't a "grind the points out and forget the aesthetics" effort.

Brentford, Fulham, Palace and Bournemouth are all vulnerable to dropping into the mix for me, particular if any or all of them lose their managers. Or they could be decent again, who knows.

West Ham are a mess, Potter has a big job on there. Aaron Ramsdale isn't going to help them if they go down that road.

We need at least a couple of other 'established' PL teams to have a shit season by their own standards

Johnny Phillips on BBCWM at 6pm to talk more about the restructuring, might give a bit more context.

I think Man United are genuinely at risk, Amorim is doing a terrible job and getting away with a hell of a lot there. If they start next season as badly as they finished this one they could end up in serious trouble.

Wolves can confirm that sporting director Matt Hobbs has left the club by mutual consent as part of a wider restructure of the football department.

Hobbs, who joined Wolves in 2015, has spent the past decade working across a number of key football roles at the club, including chief scout, head of recruitment and most recently as sporting director

The club extends its sincere thanks to Matt for his contributions throughout his time at Wolves and wishes him the very best for the future.

Further updates on the new football leadership structure will follow.

As terse as it gets.

No corner flag picture though, must be managers only for that one.

No chance. Cunha & Bryan M immediately improves them. They're keeping hold of Bruno. They don't have Europe to worry about so will be all in on the league - and they'll make more additions. They need a better keeper and someone decent who can play through the middle up top - but there's enough there to be optimistic as a Utd fan compared to the absolute embarrassment served up this season (and yet they still managed to finish above us!).

I do agree that I've been far from convinced on Amorim though.

Amorim is a frauster, the Portuguese Gary O’Neil - how he has been allowed to get this far is beyond me.

What’s most worrying for United is Amorim’s beloved “system”.
Having a manager and club that can blatantly only play one way is a recipe for disaster.

They’ll be even more fucked if they sack him after spending £250m on players that can only play in one particular formation.

Rancid club. Top to bottom.

Very much agree re West Ham. Brighton wanted to move on from Potter, to develop a more attacking style. His teams play decent football, but it isn't as incisive as it could be. De Zerbi, and then Hurzeler are showing that the squad is capable of more.

Chelsea are/were a basket case during his time, and am unsure as to how well he was supported. However since he went to west ham their attempts on goal dropped considerably.

It's not unreasonable for anyone to include us in the mix. We were bottom 3 for most of the season. We also ended the season with 1 point from 4 games, and struggled to score in the final games.

3-4-2-1 isn't an inherently bad formation though, it's not like he's Bruno Lage parking 3 attackers across the entire width of the pitch. I mean we play a version of it right now.

They won't be in relegation trouble. They have serious issues and will struggle to qualify for Europe as it is, as they have some really poor players, but they'll be ok and whatever Amorim leaves (if he doesn't turn it around) will be salvageable. Like he's played Amad at RWB, you could just use him somewhere else.

100% this. Beyond the promoted teams, who would you say right now is likely to finish below us? William Hill, as an example, have us as 4th favourite for relegation at a measly 7/2, then Fulham, then Brentford. As a neutral would you really fancy us finishing above either of those two? The bookies aren't often all that far off. We'll need to unearth some more gems or we'll be relying on the promoted teams being, once again, hopeless.

Yeah, agree re: the formation.

Should have articulated it better - no problem with the formation, more about the fact it’s become such a “thing” with him and United and he seems completely incapable of working with players that don’t 100% fit his ideology.

Oh yeah, that's ridiculous.

Have a look, you lose most weeks, decide "this isn't working, let's park it for next year when we have different players" surely. But no, he ploughed on and he can never ever ever change it. Even at 1-0 down in a cup final.

That's oddball management.

I think Leeds will be stronger than the past 6 promoted teams. It’s not a given that they will all go down.
