Is Vitor Pereira A Good Manager Or Should He Go?

He was right for the short term fix last season, instilled some discipline and organisation after GON lost control of his PE class.
He’s not a bad manager but we need someone who can get a bit extra out the players. Sadly they usually go to clubs with an ounce of ambition and have done.
The current run will get him sacked but I doubt any replacements would achieve anything significantly better certainly not enough to save us maybe just make things not so embarrassing.

I would say, "be careful what you wish for" No decent manager is going to take us on on our current form, points total and squad. I'm concerned we might end up with another Lage or GON. GON is still available! I think we need to rest JSL until he's fit, give Mane a chance, give Lopez and Rodrigo a run in the team and ditch Arias. Not sure about Tolu

We probably all fear who we'll get to replace him (given recent managerial appointments) but we can't go on with the current run, we havent won for eons.

Vitor is on a par with GON at this stage*

* One purple patch where they won 6 games from 9.
* Unable to arrest a losing streak from the end of one season into the next
* Questions about the traits of players chosen to captain the side
* Players looking increasingly lost and confused

There is mitigation and aggravating factors for both men. One had no pre-season, one no longer has Cunha and RAN, both were working for Shi, one had far greater say in recruitment with the appointment of his pal etc but once you take all that into account there isn't all that much in it.

Of the two, Vitor is more likable and wasn't on Monday Night Football basking in his own genius at the first opportunity I guess.

* Lage is a cunt.

VP won’t even play Mane in the league cup.

The issue is that , right now, anyone interviewing to replace VP can go two ways.

1. Give me loads of money in January and I can keep you up
2. You're probably going to go down, but we can rebuild cheaply in the championship.

Jeff will try for option 1 with the budget of option 2.

That's the second problem if we're too far adrift. Players won't want to come, we'll have loads of ground to make up, and Fosun will see it as a lost cause.

We need to be within a couple of wins in January or it's curtains.

it’s curtains already

Vitor has nothing on his CV to suggest he’ll get us out of this.

He got lucky last year, we all knew and could see that, and it’s papered over the cracks.

GON did similar - he was even talked about as the next England or Man Utd boss at that particular time - such is the bullshit that surrounds a few good results and a bit of overachievement. He was a fraud and, while I don’t think Vitor is that, I don’t think he’s a very good manager.

Exactly the same as GON - a few good results, he’s hyped by the media, all the “pints” bullshit - this squad was never going to be good enough eventually. If VP has chosen these summer signings, he should be sacked on that alone - every one of them has looked largely shit (Krejci aside - but he was 30m quid).

Maybe our only chance is a new manager bounce. It’s worked before. Because, as it stands, this manager and this squad are not getting us out the shit this time.

Vitor wasn’t lucky last season. He very quickly turned us into a mid table team, made us solid defensively and got the best out of two excellent attacking players (and Larsen) after inheriting an absolute mess.

He’s doing a rubbish job since and I would sack him, but he also has a terrible squad. Our 3 best players a centre back and two defensive midfielders. We have no attacking quality at all.

I don’t have a lot of sympathy for him though because a lot of this (season) is on him and his mates shambolic recruitment.

That said, Lage/Lopetegui/GON/Pereira, it doesn’t really matter - it was always going this way with the way Fosun and Shi run the club.
