I feel like we've put all our money on black in the casino and luckily it's landed on the right number.

Yep. SkyBet. Looks like we’ve been screwed over. Thanks Jeff for that announcement.
If Davis doesn’t stay for 10 games he surely doesn’t count? Skybet cannot suggest he’s permanent even if he lasts less.

Maybe cynical, but this could have been a smart (or at least opportunistic) business ploy by Julen. He's got more leverage now than he did two weeks ago.

From the looks of it he’s sensed an opportunity. More than likely turned down the job at that time, then with the shit show that followed thought ‘well, I could ask for anything now, let’s see what I can get’ had a break etc and here we are.

Pretty much my read, too.

"Hey Jeff. You really think you're gonna last til January, huh?"

Harsh man, the guy had a tough end to his Seville career and his old man was at deaths door.
Personally think he wanted the job but said I need to get my shit together first.

I agree. Without wanting to give the board any credit for how long it took them to sack Lage, but I do think it was the worst possible timing for JL and it added to the amateurish feel of the whole thing.

I don't think there's been anything cynical in the way Lopetegui has acted whatsoever - I'm taking it as a good sign that he restarted the discussions.

That’s where I am, but circumstance happened that due to our farce of a plan B he’s sat there thinking ‘well I know they want me, so I can get them to sing to my tune’.

Not his plan, as you have said, just circumstantial. He’s position is so much stronger than when he was first approached

Occam's Razor says this is the real story tbf.

Wouldn't hold it against him either way. Get your money, I say.

Wolves making the announcement he was staying until 2023 made them payout. If we had appointed Beale (for example) and sacked him after 6 games it wouldn't nullify the bets

Understood but Davis was a caretaker and won't make the 10 games they state on their site.
