Newcastle 1-0 Wolves (13/09/25) - Verdict Thread

Another thing, there were many who before the game said Wolves were going to get thrashed. Today wasn't that. The way we played prevented that.
Certainly not good enough to win, but good enough to thwart Newcastle from giving us a thrashing.
So what? We get the same amount of points for a 0-1 as a 0-5.

I don't see the bright prospects you mentioned previously, we create nothing, and are painfully crawling to relegation. Praising us not getting a thrashing like we're a League 2 side in the cup is odd

I thought he might last until Xmas but lack of points is unsustainable. Lose the next 2 or 3 games and VP will be gone l think.

On the way home. Have to say overall I enjoyed my first awayday (result apart).
Thought we were really good first 25, we were too far away for my old eyes to tell just how bad the misses were.
Thought Newcastle had 2 good periods of about 5 minutes each, unfortunately they scored in one of them, our defending was garbage. We really should have got something from the game, Newcastle stopped playing on 65 minutes and handed us the initiative, unfortunately we just don't have the quality to take advantage, or the bravery.
Obviously it's easy to be magnanimous when you've won but most of the Toon fans we spoke to on the way out were complimentary and thought we'd get an equaliser.

But Jeff said we'd had a good window so surely it's just a matter of time before they become a team of winners.

But seriously, this is what a team that sells its best players every summer and doesn't have the scouting skill to replace them looks like. We've assembled a truly terrible team.

A good start but as soon as they scored we never looked like scoring.

Out ineptitude was summed up by getting a corner in dying minutes and failing to get the ball in the box. This compounded making subs and leaving Hwang on the pitch and Lopez on the bench. That's Lopez who looked vaguely competent last game and Hwang who still looks like a competition winner for at least 89 minutes of every match.

If we'd scored before the end of normal time I'm certain Newcastle would have scored again. Over the summer I thought we'd go down, at the end of the transfer window I was nearly certain we would, having watched us in four games I'm absolutely certain we will, and as we do so we'll break records for fewest goals scored.

That has to be one of the worst refereeing performances I've seen in terms of smaller decisions, and it wasn't even like the crowd played a part - as Newcastle's did against Liverpool, for example.

We've got a real soft side to us, I'm hoping Krejci can be an organiser in defence. He did alright in fairness, probably the pick of the bunch.

The lack of attacking threat is a huge concern. There's only really Fer Lopez who can beat a man or do something different.

The only real hope is we go very basic and have the two big lads in the team and try to get crosses in.

Jeff is obviously the major problem at the club, but the £100m we did spend this summer has been really bad.

If you’re heading down the 1-0 at Newcastle ain’t that bad route then you’re inadvertently highlighting the demise of the club, put simply if 5 years ago we’d played like that and lost 1-0 there would be zero positives.
What’s happened is the squad is so bad as are the fan expectations that people are accepting a loser mentality. The club is riddled with mediocrity and a losing mentality.

We should have scored in that game, but the longer it went on and the more we needed to score...the less likely it was going to happen. We don't have a player that makes you want to get out of your seat, we are predictable and we are easy to beat. And it isnt pleasant to watch.

I know we got out of jail in two of the last three seasons but there’s a huge difference this time. We have no game changers in the squad. There’s no stardust. By the time the January window opens we’ll be cut adrift of safety, no such player will entertain the idea of joining us and no manager is going to bail us out.

Even if such a player did come there is no guarantee they actually make a difference. Cunha didn’t have much effect in his first half season.

Must admit, on the way up to the game, I was thinking a draw would be a decent result but having reflected on it, Newcastle were poor overall.....lack of quality is gunna fuck us this season.

Of the starters, Hwang and Agba poor, everyone else fine or good. First half was entertaining, 2nd half was awful - neither side created anything for 40 minutes until we started throwing bodies forward. Not signing a CM and loaning out Traore remains an incredibly stupid decision given that all 3 of our CMs picked up bookings today.

Yup, they need to be here and settled, we can't expect £10-20m lads get in and instantly be your best player. It's going to be an absolutely horrible watch this season, there's not a single player in our squad that can make a fan fall in love with football with imagination or wild technique. We are SO shit.

1-0. 5-0. Amounts to the same.

You shouldn’t be going into any game saying ‘a 1 0 loss is a good result’

2nd half was almost as if we decided to stay deep and then try and nick something last 10 mins. Depressing stuff.
