Newcastle 1-0 Wolves (13/09/25) - Verdict Thread

Can't see anything other than relegation with Albion and/or Blues coming up and overtaking us. The Jeff Shi Masterclass will be complete. The fans don't deserve it but that slimy little prick definitely does.

Thought Hugo did well on the right, Rodrigo Gomes could have scored in the opening seconds, Mosquera gave hope in defence and liked Krejci. Tolu also looked good up top and look forward to seeing more of him, hopefully with JSL rather than the ineffective (crap) Hwang or the truly awful Munetsi.

I like Vitor but how he can bring on Munetsi and Bellegarde when we're chasing a goal ahead of Fer Lopez makes me concerned that he is relying too much on workhorse lugs than technical ability.

4 straight defeats. 1 point from 8 games. Depressing and disheartening. Feels like last season again but without the quality in the side to turn it around.

From attracting the likes of Ruben Neves, Diogo Jota, Joao Moutinho, Rui Patricio, et al to the project to being rejected by Josh fucking Brownhill, the Jeff Shi Masterclass is almost complete

There were a few minor things I noticed today, but they all contribute to the bigger picture.

Munetsi comes on and has acres of space in front of him, but jogs forward half arsed, lets the full back get back in position - so turns back, loses possession and picks up a booking trying to win it back.

Jackson comes on and after Johnstone claims a cross, legs it forward ready for a counter - but instead, Johnstone lumps it forward towards Arias (marked by Dan Burn) and we give up possession again. Why? You’ve got the quickest player in the PL running in to space and a simple roll out. Why are you ignoring him?

Why is Vítor favouring players like Munetsi ahead of Lopez when we are chasing the game? At least Fer will be one of the best players in the Championship next season.

Why does every throw in we have towards the edge of their box, end up with Agbadou on the ball back on the half way line within 5 seconds? And don’t get me started on the corner routine when we should have just got it in the mixer with minutes left and 1-0 down.

Johnstone and our centre backs lumping it long in the vague direction of Hwang when he’s up against Schar and Dan Burn. Why?

Most/all of that is on Vítor. As I said, we know what the squad is - but he’s the guy sending them out to play like that. He’s the one putting together this game plan and these tactics. I like the guy, but I’m quickly losing patience with him.

As others have said, BIG week coming up for him.

The throw ins going backwards is infuriating especially as when we have the ball on the halfway line we haven’t got a clue how to progress it back to where the throw in was just made. In our position we need to make the most of any possession in the final third.

On one occasion, Hwang took a throw in. Threw it back to Agba chest height (why?) - he then struggled to control it, so volleyed it straight out of play while trying to pass it back to Hwang. They both looked at each other and shrugged, while Newcastle took their throw and started to counter on us.

Amateur. You get taught this stuff in school.

As I say, it’s the little things like that which all add up to the mess we’re in.

Could’ve said the same about GON. Sometimes anyone is better.

VP is not a good manager. He’s a short term fixer. He’s done with us.
It is rapidly beginning to look that way. Incredible how quickly his stock has fallen since the run of six wins on the trot.

Never have felt so disconnected from the club than I do now. There’s nothing endearing about the club, the players are characterless and average.
The ownership are non interested, the cost is through the roof.
Me neither. Ain’t much fun following us on the road at the moment.

I’m not quite at the bin him off stage but I’m not far off.
It’s unraveling very quickly for him, I’ve pointed out earlier how his performance last season is slightly skewed by opposition circumstances or them just being really shit.
His starting line ups have mainly been puzzling, constantly favouring Munetsi over Lopez again is just baffling.
The situation of the club is laughable you’re 1-0 down with 20 minutes left and you have Hwang, JRB and MM on the pitch to try and get you a point.
We lost both our WB this summer and their replacements are deemed not good enough to start.
The more your new signing don’t work and you keep losing it’s a matter of time.
I’ve called it the trend with VP seems to be beat dross lose to half decent sides.

The corner in the second half was worse, we have three 6ft plus centre halves in the penalty area, and we ended up back on the halfway line where we launched an aimless ball forward which went out for a goalkick.

In my (humble) opinion we are playing the wrong formation.
We do not need to be playing 3 centre backs and two defensive midfielders in front of them. We could play two centre halves, two full-backs (possibly Toti on the left) this would allow us to play more attack minded players like Rodrigo and Fer Lopez, possibly Arias (though I've not seen anything from him yet) further forward with a bit more freedom. This would enable us to link play better from the back to the front.
Then again maybe I'm clutching at straws.
The 'system' we are currently playing, with the players we've got is an absolute waste of time.

If he sticks with the formation we started with today, there’s no place for Fer or Arias in the starting 11. Two of the signings we were pinning our hopes on to bring some creativity. We’re also one injury or suspension away from not being able to play it anyway, as we didn’t sign another centre mid.

It’s almost like there’s no plan.
