Newcastle 1-0 Wolves (13/09/25) - Verdict Thread

If he sticks with the formation we started with today, there’s no place for Fer or Arias in the starting 11. Two of the signings we were pinning our hopes on to bring some creativity. We’re also one injury or suspension away from not being able to play it anyway, as we didn’t sign another centre mid.

It’s almost like there’s no plan.
But he's 'creating an identity'. Just not a very good one.

Never have felt so disconnected from the club than I do now. There’s nothing endearing about the club, the players are characterless and average.
The ownership are non interested, the cost is through the roof.

This is where I'm at too. The playing squad? Everyone with eyes can see they're just not good enough. It's an assembly of parts, not a team. Them continuing to lose would suck especially if we felt any strong connection to them but theres no Coady or Neves type let alone someone with attacking flair. Just resigned already to most of them helping us onwards towards relegation and leaving next summer.

Vitor is the same. Wasn't in a rush to buy him a pint last season anymore than I'm rushing to see him sacked now. The hand he's been dealt with is the hand he's got. How much at fault will he be when he's eventually made the scapegoat? Just ugh, doesn't matter, anymore than whom his replacement is. How they untangle his baggage (Teti) is just as much an issue.

There is one person at the top of the club who elicits a very strong emotion though...

It’s been a horrible start, as bad as we all feared.
It’s no surprise though, many of us in pre season were deeply concerned about quality in the squad and just how terrible we looked.
We have a coach who is good enough to set up a team to take points of dross but is limited thereafter.
When you have a quality problem you need to very well organised, lots of character and the ability to dig in. We have none of that and looks like we’ve got a coach who is limited.
VP is looking more and more like a short term fix.
By now we should’ve started to see the shoots of recovery at least I’m not seeing any at all.
All we’ve done in 12 months is go full circle our league position and points tally is very similar and will continue in that fashion. Difference is now we’ve got zero game changers.
Even if we win next weekend (I don’t think we will) it won’t be the start of a recovery with Spurs and BHA after that.

These are the points totals we’ve been relegated with in previous seasons. Can anyone genuinely see us getting as many points this season?

I genuinely think we might struggle to get 25 points.

I think it would’ve been more enjoyable this season if we had closed the club and re-opened it again in August next year for the championship. Feels like we barely exist at the moment other than to offer teams a route to picking up form.
I’d take 20-25 points now, I’d still be annoyed but wouldn’t be humiliated, it would also fully shine the spotlight on Jeff and how badly he’s misjudged and mismanaged the club.
If we run it close and still go down you’ll still get arseholes defending him and claiming bad luck or blaming the PSR etc for our demise. They’ll also claim that jeff should stay to help get us back up.
Complete loser tinpot mentality

I think the low level of activity on the forum is a very good indicator of how disillusioned and disconnected the fans are. Not much to debate really as we know we’ve stripped the team of most of the quality and replaced those players with hopeful punts. The manager is doing his best to prove his reputation as a fire fighter rather than a team builder is fully justified and the owners aren’t that bothered about relegation. Sad state of affairs.

The horrible thing and I mentioned it yesterday to a few, is that as soon as we went 1-0 down I have the mentality of that's it. This football team at the moment (Not sure when it will turn, it surely will for the better) doesn't have the quality or nounce to get back into a game. If we had scored those early chances great heads are high, but as soon as we go 1-0 down that's that for me.

I think Shi will give him the fixtures up to the November international break, holding on for too long assuming things will get better.

Leeds (H)
Spurs (A)
Brighton (H)
Sunderland (A)
Burnley (H)
Fulham (A)
Chelsea (H)

The 7 fixtures there need at least 11 points, gets us back to a point a game. I honestly can't see how this team gets more than 6-9, and that is being optimistic assuming we'll grind out results against promoted clubs. Lose or draw against Leeds and we really should change our manager and try to salvage something from the next 6 fixtures there as the run in come December looks horrible - particularly giving a new manager the Brigton to Fulham run to get a good handful of points back. It's not beyond a decent manager (ideally Shi going cap in hand to Nuno).

I have reservations on Vítor and I can feel myself losing patience with him pretty quickly - but we sack him, who’s coming in? We’ll be in the same situation with the same owners, the same players and the same scenario where we have to limp up to January when they *may* invest.

Stop if you think you’ve heard this one before.

Dream scenario - Fosun sell us & whoever takes over brings back Nuno. Likelihood of that happening? Zero, unfortunately. The same as us staying up.

ATM, I just want us to beat that derby record for least amount of points, and I feel that may be a struggle.
Just wondering whether to put a tenner on Sean dyche taking over

put on an accumulator… dyche to take over and be sacked by christmas.

We will get more than Derby FFS.

We rightly should be playing percentage football as we don’t have much quality. Percentage football will be good enough against enough of this league to get some points. Whether it’s enough to get 38+ points I’m not sure

Look i get that everything is very negative whichis understandable and we've lost the first four games and we're definitely going to be in a battle this season but i do think the talk of Derby points totals etc.. is just not anything we're going to be involved with. I know we've lost all 4 games but it's been really fine margins in the last 3 in particular and pretty sure if Sa hadn't become a human sieve for 90 minutes against City that probably would have been a loss by 1 goal too. Now whether you lose by 1 or 3 it's still a loss but i do think we're not far away from being very competitive and us picking up points.

There's lots to work on and we're very frustrating to watch at the moment especially with the errors and the performances of some of our better players but that is something Vitor can work on although he does need to think about his use of Munetsi and Hwang. Those 2 should be used only to protect players who have a high workload and when we're winning comfortably, there's not a time i can see that they add more than other options while we're drawing/losing.

Should have scored in the first half yesterday and when we didn't and conceded it was hard to see how we could get back into the game with Hwang on, Tolu understandably having to come off and then Vitor bringing Munetsi on. It was also tough as Mr Kavanagh in his purple kit was about as much good as Barney the dinpasaur would have been in charge of the game, blatant home decisions including Krejci's early yellow card and a flying kick to the head (by Burn i think) which went completely unpunished being two standouts amongst a number of questionable decisions.

We've still got a problem in midfield as Andre is still not hitting the heights of last year which is obviously linked to his falling out with the manager but Joao next to him is really struggling imo and he also seems undroppable. He's still getting around the pitch but being beaten more than last year and he lost his battle with Tonali(what a player) yesterday and his distribution with the ball has to be better especially with those behind him namely Toti and Agbadou really struggling with their distribution too.

Only one game but i do think Krejci is going to add to the squad, he's a good footballer and i'd like to see him move into the back 3 and see Lopez come into a more advanced role in midfield if we're going to go with the 3-5-2/5-3-2 that we did yesterday. Mosquera is gonig to be a good addition to the back 3 and we desperately need to see the Agbadou of last season because at the moment i'd rather see Santi come in and i never thought i'd be asking for him to start in a Premier League team.

As i said at the start i get the negativity, i'm pretty negative myself and i do think it's going to be a real battle but i do think there's enough quality in the squad to get us to a position of safety it's jsut on Vitor to do this. Yes he's been failed by Fosun and the recrutiment because the standard of players in are'nt comparable to those that left but there's still enough here to get something out of the squad and while we lost yesterday i think that game showed that as Newcastle are a pretty good side and they didn't blow us away and had we got Larsen in the team and others fully fit and integrated we would have got something from the game. I'm going to hang on to that hope for as long as possible but next week is genuinely a must win already probably because we do need to get points on the board and especially at home.

It feels a bit 2011/12 for me, in the early months of that season we weren't red raw awful (QPR at home aside) but kept coming out on the wrong end of narrow scorelines. Then it all totally fell to bits after Christmas.

We are now in a position where we could seriously do with beating all of Leeds, Burnley and Sunderland in the next 6 weeks or so.

I still wonder what would have happened if we hadn't got two late goals against Swansea. MM was on very thin ice and if we'd replaced him then who knows what would have happened. We weren't a lost cause at that point and might have attracted a half decent manager, not that MM wasn't, but at that point it felt like he'd run his course at Wolves.

Should never have survived the Everton away game, absolutely disgraceful tactics he employed in that game and was a big signal he had lost his way big time.
