Newcastle 1-0 Wolves (13/09/25) - Verdict Thread

No.

He was made to look like a Sunday league player against Reijnders. Scott & Tavernier ran him & Andre ragged v Bournemouth. Garner was quality against us v Everton & Dewsbury-Hall got a goal and for large spells had the run of Molineux. Yesterday Tonali again made him look like a park player.

Gomes covers a lot of ground and cannot be accused of not trying, so he gets a pass - but he *has* lost every individual battle this season so far. We’ve lost the midfield battle in every game, so it’s not all on him.
He’s probably the best player in our squad at the moment and the disrespect you’re showing him is palpable.

You should probably stop embarrassing yourself before the point of no return.

Which of our matches this season has he come out on top then?

He likely agrees with me when it comes to his performances this season, which explains why he looks so frustrated.

This is another perfect example of an attempt to make a mockery of someone’s opinion because it doesn’t fall in line with your own. They just keep coming, but you do you.

Well he definitely isn't fit, no footballer should be wearing strapping around their knee it'd limit movement, jumping, sprinting, turning, everything.

Has VP commented on it yet? Has a journalist bothered to ask him?

I admire Slink & others for their optimism - but let’s not rewrite history either. Bar City, the scorelines may look close on paper, but for me, we’ve been comfortably second best in every match this season.

There’s also a hell of a lot of “ifs” and “buts” in those optimistic posts over the last few pages. I just don’t see it.

And for the record, I haven’t once said we won’t beat the infamous Derby point total. I think we might struggle to beat the points we got on the other occasions we went down, though.
It’s not optimism that makes it sound like gold tinted specs. It’s my opinion on the quality of the players we have, i think the squad is better than we have seen so far and i don’t agree that we’ve been comfortably second best either. There’s been moments/spells where our level particularly individually has dropped below the levels needed.

I think it’s absolutely perfectly reasonable to think we will struggle and go down too for all i think the squad is good enough i said a couple of weeks ago i’m not sure about Vitor because of things i’ve seen myself and heard from behind the scenes but i’m going to give him a chance to improve the level like he said he would post game yesterday. My posts mainly have been getting at the fact that the “negative” posts generally are very much end if the world type stuff and very little balance when it comes to any positives. For all that the second half yesterday was a bit of a non event if you watched the game you can’t say we didn’t compete with them and were in the game and that there were positives because there were, i’m not forgetting them because we lost and Agbadou was poor and Tonali bossed our midfield and Vitor kept Fer on the bench longer than Marshall.

Keep digging your hole of terrible opinions. I’m not going to stop you.

If he isn’t fit he shouldn’t be playing firstly but injured or not the mistakes he’s made this year aren’t “fit” related. Yesterday he just ball watches and lets Woltemade peel off him with no disguise at all. Much like his positioning for Haaland’s opener against us it’s that which has cost us more than his mobility.

It’s not necessarily unusual to see players with the type of strapping Agbadou has. Although I did wonder if he struggled to get off the ground for the goal for that reason but I think I’m being kind on him.

There’s something not right, whatever it is.

Meh. It’s a Sunday evening & you’re clearly after an argument instead of a reasoned chat. I’ll leave you to it - but you may want to refer to Slink in terms of how to engage respectfully and properly in a debate moving forward. It would do you the world of good 😘

Totally agree.

If the debate or opinion is completely flawed from the start, I don’t see the point in engaging in a productive way.

I absolutely think its unusual to see around the knee, you see around quads and calves, but I don't ever recall seeing it around the joint of a professional footballer since John De Wolf maybe, and we know that was practically holding his leg together.

(See it on sunday morning cloggers all the time though 🙂)

I’d prefer to think he’s not fit, rather than he’s fallen out with the manager and just phoning it in.

Leicester got 25 last season and they were clearly epic levels of shit. We're nowhere near that level, don't be silly.

You were on here at 9am this morning posting screenshots of our worst ever Premier League finishes. Clearly interested in a reasoned chat.

Go on then, explain how we're worse than Leicester of last season, a team who fielded Wout Faes, Jordan Ayew and Bobby Decordova-Reid all campaign and broke 30+ year old league records for failing to score at home.

'João Gomes has lost every individual battle he's had this season'

Fucking idiot

Thank God for the edit button, eh?

Bless you 🤣🤣🤣

I’m still waiting to hear in which match this season so far he’s come out on top. Unless I missed it in and amongst the insults… again.
