Thought I would start a regular thread for our respective fixtures referee.

Everton (a)

Craig Pawson
4th Official Anthony Taylor
VAR Andre Marriner

Everton's odds look more generous by the minute.

Tonight:
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Gillingham (19:45)
MICHAEL SALISBURY
Derek Eaton and Mark Stevens
Fourth Official : Rebecca Welch

Cheating Villa Cunt on VAR.

Marriner is an interesting one as he's probably the most 'out' ref in the PL and has a Villa season ticket. On the one hand having a proper fan in charge is a good thing, but it's difficult to believe that he doesn't give subconscious decisions in games that affect Villa's position. I don't buy the George Ndah rumour though.

This is surely true to some extent with all refs, isn't it? Just that Marriner has made the decision, rightly or wrongly, to spotlight where those biases might lie for him.

Under Mick we explicitly asked for him not to ref our games any more after he sent Henry off at Arsenal for nothing. He never did for years afterwards either.

It definitely is. The amount of high-profile refs who claim to support no team or that they support a non-league side... let's say I am doubtful of it.

I'd rather they were open about it. Let 'em be fans.

The more we pretend people don't have subconscious bias, the more opportunity for outrage we create, IMO.

They don't admit to it as it hurts their career. Refs aren't allowed to referee the team that they support, the rivals (normally - Marriner), but also any game that has bearing on your team. If you claimed to support a 'big' six team you'd basically never be able to referee a high-profile game again.

Just checked and Marriner at Arsenal was on 3 April 2010.

He next reffed us on 16 August 2015 at home to Hull.

We never used to get Alan Wiley despite him 'supporting' Chasetown

I should also state that I believe Marriner should be banned from refereeing for copying David Dickinson's skincare regime, let alone anything else.

We'll have to see how VAR changes when Mike Riley leaves.

That's really harsh, if understandable.

IMV if you own up to the bias you can take more effective steps to counteract it, but hey ho. PGMOL ain't reading my bullshit.

I've seen him at one of their games at least.
He lives in Burntwood so does go from time to time, but growing up there myself I can tell you that nobody was a Chasetown fan in the 80s apart from a couple of dozen old men let alone earlier than that when Wiley was a kid.

As the self proclaimed leader of the George Ndah fan club, I'm concerned I have no idea what this rumour could be.

Marriner said to him in a game, possibly for the reserves, that he fucking hates Wolves, which has become a bit of an urban myth

I don't know any villa fans who hate Wolves so I'd be inclined to say it's probably not true. It's only recently twitter virgins have tried to manufacture something that isn't really there.

Aren't all refs wankers? I know growing up on the southbank the majority were, what makes a ref grow up wanting to be a shit anyway?
