Of course not.

But the Donald says we are doing great. Fandabbyfuckingdosey.

As the EU Commission points out, we can't do a deal with the US until we are out of the EU, which will take two years, so all this from Gove is a load of emperor's new clothes.

Unless brexit happens quicker than expected. It may be that prospective trade deals from non EU countries alloiw brexit to happen sooner. In which case Trumps offer could be a golden ticket

Brexit can't happen quicker can it? I thought the 2 years was fixed within Article 50.

The two are independent processes. You're not allowed to negotiate trade deals while you're a member of the EU.

SO basically first you negotiate leaving the EU, *THEN* you negotiate whatever trade deals you think you need with the rest of the world.

2 years is the maximum. If you havent negotiated alternative arrangements 2 years after notification then you simply revert to being another country under WTO rules.

But we already trade with the USA so how is it a golden ticket, especially since most of Trump's rhetoric is very protectionist?

I saw someone mention elsewhere that if someone is offering you a REALLY GOOD DEAL, but you have to sign RIGHT now then you're probably not getting a really good deal.

Not coming down on either side here, but what could the EU do about it if we broke that rule - chuck us out?

Theresa May will have 12 priorities and 4 principles, per all media.

The 4 principles are, apparently:
“certainty and clarity”; “a stronger Britain”; “a fairer Britain"; “a truly Global Britain”.

Our Prime Minister, ladies and gentlemen. Meaningless slogans and hell bent on taking us into absolute chaos for no reason.

Advisers know the speech could have an impact on the value on sterling by confirming that the UK cannot stay in the single market, but May will say that British voters backed Brexit “with their eyes open”.

Yeah, like fuck. Let's add liar to the charge sheet while we're at it.

She's an idiot. An actual moron.

Tear up every trade deal. Deport all British nationals. That sort of thing.

But realistically, what could they do? We don't have a trade deal to tear up. They won't deport our nationals due to worries with theirs. All the over dramatic rubbish doesn't help.

We'll negotiate before brexit, we just can't sign anything until the day after we leave.

Its more that until you know what your relationship with the EU looks like its tricky to negotiate with anyone else. For example, lets say the UK produces 100k cars per year. No point busting our balls to export all of them tax-free to the US if the EU will give us that anyway.

On the other hand we *really* need financial service passporting with the EU, so maybe we'd be happy to see tariffs/quotas on car exports to the EU to achieve that - meaning we'd look for a favourable deal to export that production to the US.

I'm pretty sure the car manufacturers would like to do both, especially as it would be the customer that's paying the tariff.

The two should be negotiated along side each other.

They probably would be (negotiated contemporaneously). But you couldnt have one group negotiating with the EU and another with the US with neither group being aware of what the other is agreeing to. My point was that if the EU agreed to take all of our car production tax, tariff and quota free then theres no point busting our balls to get a similar deal with the US.

Nothing says "reliable trading partner" like ignoring existing arrangements with a shrug and a "fuck it, what they gonna do?"

That'll make them very well disposed to give us a good deal in future negotiations.
