Summer 2025 Transfer Window (not Wolves)

I also think the intention was to shunt Pies Butler down to the bench, but Okoronkwo was bloody awful, so bang went that idea.

Yep, he was still effective on the ball, and made good choices. But his mobility was awful, but he was 38 and had played over 900 games for club and country by that Prem season with us.

Also, inexplicably we very rarely let him take free kicks. What was that about, he scored a cracker against Burnley (?) But he just never seemed to get to take others? Or am I misremembering?
Are you thinking v Bradford at home? Seem to recall a superb free kick in front of the South Bank?

Another classic business decision from Jeff Shi on walking away from a deal for Viktor.

To be fair to Jeff I don't recall that many on here being particularly keen on him. Happy to be proved wrong if he's good at Arsenal but what I saw of him at Swansea and Coventry didn't make me think he was all that. Plenty of players have dominated the Portuguese league and gone on to be pretty poor in England.

I mean you only have to do a quick search on here to see that most wouldn’t have signed him either.
“Lacks pace for the top level” was the general consensus, I think. I might be wrong, but I believe I was one of the few who wanted us to get it done. I know several Cov fans who were raving about him at the time!

My memory of him at Coventry was his control wasn’t very good and he used to stumble though challenges to create chances and that he wouldn’t get away with it at PL level. Decent finisher but it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s not a roaring success at Arsenal.

You sure?

You sure?

Knew there was mention of the lack of pace in there somewhere! 😂

That’s right, though. I remember people watching their play off games and going in hard on him which was a tad unfair at the time.

97 goals in 102 appearances in any league is good going. He might not stick to that ratio in the PL but he’ll get plenty of chances at Arsenal.
What about cup goals though? 🤔

It is; unfortunately we're also talking about a league that let Haris fucking Seferovic be its top scorer once.

How many of these would you have wanted at Wolves? Bad Dost anyone?!

I was looking at that exact page last night because of this discussion! 😂

I’m sure I recall Ricky van Wolfswinkel hitting 20+ for Sporting CP (@Lycan, what’s the appropriate way to identify that club?) before doing… literally nothing for Norwich? A debut goal on opening day and then I don’t think he got a single goal or assist for the entire rest of that season.

Edit: nah, I was off, 14 goals in back-to-back seasons at Sporting. I have this feeling in my head like he was expected to be quite good at Norwich. Whiffed so bad he was out of the squad by February-ish.

Sporting CP is fine, or just Sporting. Just not Sporting Lisbon. Their fans hate that, there are other teams called Sporting which represent Cities or Towns like Braga but Sporting Clube de Portugal claim to represent the whole country.

Agyemang to Derby sounds like it’s happening. £8m + £2m in add-ons.

I’m super sad.
