The best cover versions thread

Gun - Word Up. Of the million versions of that song, theirs is by far the best.

By a fucking mile. It is a stonking song. Saw them at Rock City and it was a brilliant mosh.

Hated Gun but that was indeed a decent cover version.

Live and Let Die - Guns n Roses. Loved it when it came out and still don't mind it now.

It is a good version. I think Slash has the "falling off a cliff and barely in control" guitar style that absolutely suits the track.

Shame that belmer Rose is singing on it.

When I'm Dead and Gone - Status Quo. Didn't mind the McGuinness Flint original but just love Quo's version.

Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix
Angel - Rod Stewart
Walk on By - The Stranglers
She's Not There - Santana
Black Magic Woman - Santana
Valerie - Mark Ronson feat Amy Whinehouse

I guess you could include Soul Man by James Brown then.

Ooohh just remembered a doozie.

Killin' Floor by Hendrix (live).

Absolutely incredible live guitar playing. The intro is definitely the best guitar playing I've ever, ever seen. It's that good. It made Clapton's jaw drop put it that way.

Unfortunately the Monterey version has been removed from YouTube but it's epic.

Immense shout.

I have the sheet music from the Radio 1 sessions that the song appears on, and I can confirm it is a pig to play.

Hendrix's live cover of Sunshine of Your Love was awesome.

Agreed. Hendrix could make the guitar sing.

Yeah I have that Radio 1 sessions CD. It's awesome on there too.

dinosaur jr - just like heaven
this mortal coil - another day, song to the siren, not me, strength of strings, holocaust, late night
fischerspooner - the 15th
the fall - lost in music, mr pharmacist, victoria

Can I have Horny by The Shirehorses? Cover of the Mousse.T song which makes me laugh like a drain every time I hear it.

American Pie
When the levee breaks
