The Manager Sacked/Hired Thread 2025/2026

Bruno Large sacked at Benfica.
Mourinho taking over.
Aww.
They don't give a fuck over there do they?

Saw Large in the dugout as Benfica scored.... the little fucker just sat there with his miserable gob on, as if they'd just conceded their 3rd!

Get him in. Knows the club, knows the league, proper British grafter, hard done by at Wolves etc. etc.

There was a few somewhat serious links in the middle of his first season wasn't there, back when it became clear Moyes wasn't being kept on. Would love this.

I think he'd probably do ok for a month or two with them, it's a decent team. Then the tactics will unravel. Can't fathom how Potter isn’t doing better tbh.

It'll end in tears no matter the results as he doesn't play the "West Ham way".

You know they won the world cup once...

They’ll be booing him by november

My ego is here to collect on being right about Potter
I was thinking about you!! You called it straight away.

He certainly needs to find his mojo again. I can see him working abroad again.

Or he’ll be Wolves manager next August and you’ll be very worried…

Potter will sit on his sacking money for two years like to did with the Chelsea money.

Tbh I don’t think he’s inherently bad, but he looked broken to me by the end of his time at Chelsea.

In my experience, the way a leader communicates is like a video you can’t rewind; once it has progressed into something different (for better or worse) it can be nearly impossible to get back to the original message. My guess is that Potter couldn’t communicate with the squad at Chelsea as he did at Brighton, couldn’t adjust successfully, and now may simply be unable to coach effectively anymore.

That’s not to say he’s doomed to be shite forevermore (managers have come back from worse), but IMO the parallels between Potter and, say, Nigel Adkins (admittedly, I know nothing about Adkins’ career prior to Saints’ promotion some years back) are really stark.

There’s also Brighton’s bookie data driving their recruitment, giving Potter a ton of good to great players who were all in “prove it” mode coming over. That’s a whole other conversation with a ton more baseless supposition to it, though.
