The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Well it's 2 seconds longer than they currently have and how often is it penalised?
I think the penalty being a corner rather than an indirect free kick might change things. Indirect free kicks are chaotic and I can see why refs have let enforcement go.

Yeah that looks like he's going to be wanting a move. If he does we need to keep Semedo. Wouldn't want to be trying to replace 3 players from the first 11 before even looking at trying to improve the squad. Especially 3 as important as those.

Could be 2+2=5, but difficult to not draw the he wants out conclusion, particularly given where the news has come from. Also with the usual sources all reporting the new contract offer at the same time we know where that came from. Looks like Hobbs and Shi just getting ahead of the news that hewants out.

No surprise he is looking to move tbh. @Lycan eloquently posted recently why it would make sense for him not long ago. He's been here long enough, and it is right (career wise) for him to be looking at the next step.
This isn't a pop at you, but because you are right, but you are only typing that final sentence because we've been conditioned into thinking that way. Some players a middling PL club like us can't keep hold of, Cunha for example. RAN isn't in that class, it shouldn't just be a given that we are only a stepping stone for good, but not great talent

The fact that he says ‘he can leave’ in the tweet makes it look like we are very open to selling h him. Shame.

Not a pop back equally, but I do disagree with the perspective I have been conditioned to think in a particular way. Looking at this specific case, RAN has been here 5 years, and developed, and may wish to take the next step, aspiring to get from good, to become great. He may too want to challenge himself in a different way.

I like RAN as a footballer, however I also am not averse to selling him (there's a separate discussion about trusting those in charge with how the funds are going to be used).

Suggesting others have been conditioned to accept the clubs strategy can sometimes come across a bit as looking down on other fans. It can risk being a bit borderline conspiracy theorist, in a "I know more than you/I know how it is in reality, whereas you don't" kinda way.

That's not how it was meant, because as I say you are correct as it's likely he will move on because he is looking for those things.

What I'm saying is we are just accepting of that because being a feeder club is what we've come to expect. With a good end to a season, a new manager and a generally positive atmosphere we could be poised to kick on back to the next level, we could try to sell him the vision that we are on the verge of something, we can't though because he and we know that's not the ambition.

All depends on what clubs are in for him. If one of the ‘sky 6’ come in then we are a stepping stone, irrelevant of there current league positions.

Then you have your villas, forests, Newcastle who again are more attractive than us (that being said I do think forest will drop off after this year)

I’m not sure Villa/Newcastle would spend 40+ on RAN, and that sort of figure would rule out your over mid table clubs.

Sadly, we are a stepping stone for players when they get to a certain level, and when certain clubs come in for them

That’s fair, as if just Cunha leaves we actually have decent foundations to kick on. Also, majority of key players are a decent age and not expected to decline

I think RAN will be looking to move beyond the next level (say challenging for Europa League) and jump another one too up to Champions League level. He’s not getting that with us, and even if a miracle did occur it would be a year later than a move this summer.

Just to add that he will be thoroughly aware that he's now wealthy, talked about and wanted. When he also sees his old competitor Hugo Bueno shipped out to Feyenoord and playing this year in the Champions League, well.... no question is there?

I think RAN gets some harsh stick from some quarters, he is a superb player. Alongside his other obvious qualities, when the ball gets hit out to his side his first touch is usually immaculate (as is Semedo's) I think it would be a lot harder to replace him than some think. The club definitely do not have enough evidence of seeing the players already at the club enough to know if any of them could do it.

If RAN himself wants the move though then I suppose this has to be the Summer, you wouldn't want to be in the realm of him having 12 months left on his deal.

I think if JSL and Marshall are going to be fixtures then you want wingbacks who can consistently cross the ball well, and neither RAN or Semedo are great at that, especially from deeper areas

Hence the "can" comment from Fab.

We want him to stay on a new deal (how seriously, dont know and could just be a "well we tried" tactic) but if not possible, in terms of value he is probably at his ceiling with us this summer
