The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

I agree it’s a poor deal and it’s an interesting point re: the accounting period.

None of us know the details though - we’re all guessing. There might well be some sort of explanation further down the line.

I’m sure the people involved in multi million pound transactions, largely know more about finance than we do.

As expert as we all are, obviously.
Donald Trump has been involved in a lot of multi million pound deals and I reckon you write what he knows about finance on the back of a postage stamp and still have ample room for illustrations.

Cucurella cost Chelsea 63million, was a year older than RAN and Brighton got Colwill on loan too.
These comparisons don't work though do they.

Otherwise every PL midfielder costs £50m now as that's what Matheus Nunes cost two years ago and he is fucking shit.

Why? The question was asked what "market value" is.

Looking at other left backs like what Kerkez and Cuc cost are far more relevant than Harvey Barnes?

Kerkez is better than Ait-Nouri.

Chelsea have an odd Brighton fetish and they're also a ridiculous club so ignore what they've paid (I wouldn't want Cucurella for any fee personally, he's atrocious).

It's not a formula you can put into Excel.

I doubt we will know but would like to see the structure of the deal.
Have we set it so City pay quickly and therefore happy to knock a few mill off that normally we would lose in interest payments via that dodgy company.

Perhaps. But the fact you think Cuc is shit and he went for 60 plus, strengthens the low value of RAN further.

I keep saying - it's a rubbish deal. We should have done better than that unless there are other factors (liquidity, RAN being a dick, payment terms, sell-on being dropped on Doyle, players from City/City Group coming here for below value) that we don't know yet.

Well Liverpool also disagree with you, and they've just won the league by miles :D
As I've said before, I think Kerkez suits Liverpool and RAN will suit City, I don't think either of them would work particularly well if they were going to the opposite clubs.

Also if you are just throwing a "Liverpool signed him he must be good" type argument at me, then shall we discuss Nunez?

Chelsea were in that spell of "let's sign a player and beat other clubs by offering £10-15m more,"

What was the contract Cuc had left
Had he told Brighton he wanted to join Chelsea

A ton of things to take into account.

That said, 99.9% on here agree our fee is too low and yet we are pissing our weekend away arguing over whether there is a hidden reason or Jeff/Hobbs/Jackson are just shit at their jobs

Fair.

We're hoping/inventing reasons that make it make sense.

For the avoidance of doubt I think it's a poor deal for Wolves.

We'll see if my theory about the accounting period holds any weight. If we don't sign anyone in the next three weeks then obviously not.
Having already sold Neto, Kilman and Cunha (even though not fully amortised) in this accounting period then I’m 99.99999% sure Ait Nouri isn’t the key to us to us suddenly spending £200m

It's also fairly irrelevant in the grand scheme of things as supporters.

We're losing one of our nailed on starters, all that matters now is that we replace him properly. If we do then no-one is really going to care what we received. If the perceived low fee means we can only afford to sign someone rubbish then we will care.

I can see us signing Leif Davis, we need English players. Whether that's a good move or not, well you can decide.
