The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Add ons are at least achievable at City. Doesn't make the pill that much easier to swallow though.

Al - I call it as I see it. I think the theory you propound isn't backed by a great deal of evidence if you prefer the polite version. But your mileage may vary so that is fine too.

They both were keen as mustard to go obviously so all we can do is hope we've banked enough and have a plan to replace their contributions

Only good thing is that this is done early on and we have plenty of time to fix it.
This is the biggest window we’ve faced since probably putting together the foundations under Nuno in 2017.
Every summer now we have to adapt to at least 2 of our better players leaving the club.
I’ve said in the past the none sky super 6 pretty much do all the scouting work for the super 6 they can watch to see if they are good enough then pick them off at will.

For one thing, I only see three people “slating” him. For another, this idea that he “tries things” is absolutely true and was a boon for us, but he constantly tried them in our own third, and that’s quite simply a bad place to try to get fancy.

Nobody is out here wishing he’d had fewer goal contributions ffs.
How else do you break the press? Yes you can pass past it but we haven’t been particularly good at that. RAN beating a player and then running well into the opposition half has been one of our major threats under VP and responsible for creating far more than it has caused defensive problems. Inevitably he loses the ball sometimes and that’s why we have an extra central defender to help deal with it. If he was doing it as a fullback in a back four it would be more of an issue and it will be interesting to see how he plays at City but my betting is that he won’t need to be taking players on in his own third as City can pass their way out of a press better than anyone.

We need to move on from the two players leaving and use the funds gained wisely . There is little points giving out about the fees at this point . There is no point keeping players who do not wish to stay , and I'd sooner they left early rather than than drag it into August .

Other will leave too and perhaps we'll gain more from them in terms of money that we might otherwise had hoped , but let's not get hung up on it .

Let's hope we buy wisely .

Usually when teams lose players like Cunha & Rayan they'll go on about replacing their contributions in the aggregate, the problem with that being that they usually only have one space to fill. The real opportunity for us is that we basically need to build an entire new front line, especially if Hwang & Guedes leave as has been rumoured. Recruitment is a bit of a minefield in any business but with the PSR allowance we have and the fact that Vítor seems to be very clear on exactly what kind of profile he wants, we should be in a good position to put together a decent attacking team.

The obvious worry is that you have no idea what to expect from Fosun. Some of the messaging coming out after the restructure sounds quite positive but we've heard it all before. They could easily leave us going into next season with Strand Larsen, Mané, Guedes, Hwang, Munetsi & Bellegarde and we'd be struggling to create anything. They've completely hamstrung us in the transfer market before so you can't rule it out.

It’s a forum, people discuss what’s on their mind, why should they “move on”, he only left yesterday!

Potentially the reason we played 5 at the back. Knowing the risk of him losing it trying to beat the press we would/should atleast have 3cb covering.

Good player, understand some of the criticism but you can’t have your cake and eat it. A full/wing back having as many goal contributions as him isn’t going to be a pass it sideways merchant.

Think he will be very good at city, as his best qualities are beating a man.

Huge summer ahead.

Agree. All looks quite different if we sign two quality attackers and a solid wing back. Just feels like too much to do when we’ve been so hit and miss in the last few years

Martín seems like quite a positive start if that rumour is true.

Good business for me. How anyone thinks he's worth £40 million is beyond me. Decent going forward but very inconsistent with his final ball/decision and weak defensively, I'm still having nightmares about Chelsea at home. Brentford at home typified his risky attitude in our defensive third.

I understand that , but it's not as if either player wanted to stay - they didn't .

I'm far more interested in who else might leave and therefore trying to figure out how many places we have to fill .

Fabio
Guedes
Hwang
Sa ( maybe )
Traore ( on loan perhaps )

Cunha and RAN already gone as is Sarabia .

Could be a lot of work ahead .

Evann Guessand............this chap any good ?

Room for all topics. Never understood the attitude that because a poster doesn’t want to discuss something they don’t want others discussing it. Don’t like a thread, don’t contribute.
