The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Disagree, here.

He’s on a free, he’s an ex-Barcelona, international right back - it’s not going to be hard, ever, to beat wages we’re offering.

With no transfer fee, a top ten club could easily pay him £100k or more a week - and I doubt we’re offering that.

If we’d offered decent money, that he definitely couldn’t get elsewhere, he’d have signed a new contract.
I doubt he’d be a starter for any team able to pay him £100k/ week and I doubt anyone will pay him close to that to sit on the bench.

Perhaps a top ten club doesn't see him fitting in their team? If so, I tend to agree with them.

Aka, flirting.

I don't blame him at all, but the fact the club have allowed it to get this far is poor, as you say at the end.
Why is it poor?
Too early to say that without knowing what has been offered and what may be offered elsewhere.
It's a business and a negotiation. It works both ways. It maybe that Nelson has decided to wait a while to think things through.
If so, that's no reflection on Wolves or how we are run. Simply a player deciding what the next step in his career is going to be.

I'm pretty sure we will have contingency plans and I would expect them to be activated once a decision has been made by the player. We have until this time next month to start getting business done. The situation is absolutely fine as is.

Like the RAN deal? Where City wanted him urgently for the CWC and we didn't take advantage of that at all?

Your blind faith given all of the evidence to the contrary is bizarre.

We are not a well run club.

It's his last major move, in four years no top table team is going to play him.
He's been imperious this last year at wolves, and had a good euro final.
so let the guy sit back with his family, catch his breath, and think about the last big decision he will make for his and his family's future.
It fascinates me how much in depth argument and debate is going on, on here, when actually none of us knows fuck all that can actually be taken as a proven fact, diddly squat, not a jot, bugger all.
Give the bloke a break to plan his own future, in peace.

Well actually that's not true is it?

Facts:

* His contract is running down
* He has emptied his house in Wolvo
* He so far hasn't accepted the offer Wolves have made.
* His body language at the end of the season suggested he was leaving, along with a leaving video being shot on the pitch.
* We could have sorted this out one way or the other ages ago.

Not true. We clearly want him to stay but whilst you can lead a horse to water…. He’s assessing options and whilst that is the case we have to bide our time and wait for his decision. If he was a free agent from another club everyone would view it differently. Obviously we could have sorted it by signing someone else but if VP wants Semedo we have to wait. I’d imagine we have a cut off point at which we move on to alternative options but it’s far too soon for that point to have been reached.

After spending the best part of this season thinking the club didn't want him beyond July
I doubt we've ever told him that. I'm sure we've made a contract offer to him before last month.

The story about Vitor wanting him to stay broke a couple of months ago

From all accounts, when GO was in charge we were happy for him to run that deal down.

It's only as we have given greater power to Vitor on transfers that we ended up changing our minds and putting a deal in front of him

We've offered him a reduced terms contact, he is looking for better offers. There is nothing wrong with either of those stances.

The fact he hasnt signed for anyone else yet suggests there isnt a better offer, or he's already accepted it and it hasnt been announced hence the 'leaving video' and 'clearing his house'.

Whether we have made the right decision depends on the outcome A) does he accept the reduced terms B) does he sign for someone else on a modest contract which we should have offered C) We sign a replacement for cheaper who is good D) we dont sign anyone/ they are shit/ dont end uo being cheaper anyway

I absolutely agree that the RAN deal looks a poor one for us. However, we don't know all the terms and conditions so yep, I do give the benefit of doubt.

As regards not being well run. I'd disagree. All clubs have their poor and good cycles. I'll take this given what was dished up in the mid 80's.

It's easy to knock partic. when you don't have the full facts. I prefer to try to see the positive. We're about to enter our 8th successive Premiership season.

He's the club captain. Absolutely no objection with Nelson having a look around at what's available - but his situation should have been clear by the end of the season, from both his AND the Wolves side. It's not like neither of them knew he was in the last year of his contract.

Him coming back and signing the new contract at this point is the equivalent of a all your mates turning a girl down in the club and then you taking her home and bragging about it.

Also, you're being extremely generous saying the club will have contingency plans. It's like you haven't seen how we've done business for the last 5+ years.
