The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

I haven't said players have to 'like' Wolves?

I just think it seems like we've been naive and used and the player wasn't that interested.

We've been naive before, fixated on lost causes and ended up with jack shit before, had inadequate transfer windows before, left things too late before, so I think it's perfectly reasonable to be skeptical about the club's dealings and processes when we've lost three first XI players, signed only one and it'll be August next week
But the flip side is we dont try and compete for these signings and then what? So.etime we get lucky. That's how we end up with players like Jota, Boly and Gomes for example.

“The right type of player” there’s only one right type and that’s one that fits straight in.
Leaving business to the last minute is poor running also especially considering 3 games have been burnt by then.
And as @PuntsWolf said the club have known for months now that Semedo was going.
So simple isn't it? We have to recruit players who actually want to play for us. We've seen what happens when we have half hearted players.

No it’s not easy and that’s why people who do it well get paid very well. Due diligence would be good you may know a bit earlier whether you’re wasting your time.
You cannot honestly tell me that you think this a god window do far.

I'm not saying it's good or bad. The season hasn't begun yet. I'm not wetting my pants though. I'd rather we go for quality than quantity and as I said, I believe more options will open up nearer the end of the window.

I guess I don't know what you mean by "wants to be here", then.

Nobody is saying not be skeptical, just that Pubill isn't really part of that (yet) as there really isn't any reason I can see why a player wouldn't rather go to a club that size. He'd also agreed terms with Milan; he was always looking to get out of Almería and was always going to go to the biggest club willing to pay Almería €15m. IMO that's going to be the case with 99% of players.

Why are we all so naive that we think that this has come completely out the blue and the club have been caught off guard? It was clear from FabRoms tweets for the last week he was never coming. We have just been hawked out in the media by his agent to get someone else to bite. We're talking to that very same agent FFS! The club knew where the land lies with him. This deal with Atleti hasnt just happened in 4 hours!

Whether we have other suitable targets lined up is a completely different argument though. May end being more Djiga than Agbadou, but we will see

Again, I think its naive to think players good enough to get us where we want to be, are going to 'want to play for Wolves' whatever that means anyway. That's not to say that we can't sign good players, but often we need circumstances to fall in our favour.

One of the challenges this summer is that it’s undeniably both quality AND quantity we need. The balance sheet of outgoing starters or major contributors is what it is, and we needed to improve (within reason) on what we had to start with. This isn’t pant wetting, it’s just an inescapable fact this time, so people have reason to be concerned with the current state of play. I say that as one who’d be keen to see more leaving yet, and reasonably relaxed / resigned to the choice this target made.

The reporting essentially says that, yes, the negotiations between Atlético and Almería were initiated and concluded within hours. Unless we're conveniently ignoring the reporting when it doesn't suit our preference, as we seem to do daily.

We're not Utd or Arsenal fans, we don't think every pursuit has to come off, but we've been in the biggest, richest, best league in the world for several seasons now, and this loser's attitude just lets the club hierarchy/Fosun/Jeff off the hook for repeated dogshit transfer windows for at least the last five years.

Makes you sound all cool and composed though, so there's that 🙄

The fee is known, the wages are known. The agent has been in dialogue with people for months. For whatever reason the agent couldnt get the bigger fish to bite so said 'look he's joining Wolves, so pay this or you miss out'. So Atleti have bit. They didnt just ring the agent this morning and ask him if he wants to go there.

I find it weird how people will perform all kinds of linguistic gymnastics to somehow make out that luck plays such a huge part in players coming to Wolves.

Luck had nothing to do with the calibre of player under Nuno when he assembled that great side.

That was ambition.

That Fosun have done such a number on so many that they are willing to go along with this charade of managed decline is some feat, I'll give them credit for that.

Pubill just falls conveniently into that same illusion that's been played out several windows running... the club tried but what can you do... blah blah blah.

I'm under no illusions, I get that we are where we are... but this isn't a cult and I don't have to drink the Kool-Aid...

Edit: What Prawnking said whilst I was typing this out!😁

Honestly this discussion falls apart with one side calling the other delusional and the other side calling the first hysterical.

This.

I suspect we are not as badly run or organised as some want to think.

I am 57. 8 years now in the Premier League. Best period of my supporting life... I admit I am concerned about this transfer window, but we have a better manager than we have had since Nuno, he seems keen to stay. He seems to have influence. They seem to be going for quality. It is taking time for most teams to bring quality players in. I am still tranquil. Not that anybody here could probably care, but I am in a sharing mood...

I’ve read “naive” so many times over the last couple of pages it doesn’t look like a real word anymore.

I think everyone would agree the squad is well short and will struggle massively even with a couple of more signings.
Yep there’s time but unfortunately there’s no recent evidence of us fixing all the holes in the squad.
True enough. Question is whether you think the club are trying and competent... That basically separates the 'pant wetters' from the 'niaive'
