The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Amazed how many think we should sell JSL.

We'll have an amazing bank balance in the Championship though I guess.

Everyone who has said that we should sell for that price has prefaced it by saying that there has been too many outgoings in this window or that we would need the replacement in first before we entertain any bids.

Two things can be true:
  1. Over £60m for Strand Larsen would be absolutely outrageous value for us, and involves a perfect storm of Newcastle being absolutely desperate in the market and being willing and able to pay wildly over the odds for players that may never come about again; and
  2. Selling Strand Larsen without absolute gold-plated replacements in place for him would be unbelievable folly, and would almost certainly doom us to relegation right from the off, a financial blow that would dwarf any benefits we get for selling him.
If this allows us to get a pair of high-quality, £30 million+ attacking players in, then maybe that improves us... but given the state of the market for attacking players this summer, that there's less than ten days left in the window, and that it's our team putting any deals together, I don't think it's at all worth the risk.

We could bring in all of:

Ings
Antonio
Vardy
Bamford
Get William Jose back
Toss a contract towards Rafa Mir

I think the bit which people are skirting over is - Newcastle are currently desperate for a forward and are going to overpay for one. If it's us that sells JSL to them, it then becomes our problem of being desperate and we'll undoubtedly have to overpay. Especially as everyone will know we'll have £60m burning a hole in our pocket. So essentially, it just means the problem becomes ours.

We're not the kind of club that will sign someone first, before JSL goes - so I suspect we'll be left with inadequate options after desperately searching around in the final few days.

£65m is good money for JSL. The faith I have in the club in replacing him is not so good.

If we sell JSL could we trust Jeff to reinvest?

Or would it be a repeat of the Moxey school of transfers?
We tried, we bid, we've got a warchest!

Obviously we'll know more after a few games...I meant right now as a prospective signing
