The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Not sure why so many people are so understanding and concerned about his ambitions and opportunities, and so quick to justify such a lack of commitment.

Are you Wolves fans or his agent?
I mean, there is a massive void in the middle there.

As a wolves fan, I can understand why you would want to go for Newcastle, and can understand why he’d ask. Even us as fans are saying how shitely run we are, are owners are numpties with no ambition etc etc.

We’d all love for him to be like a fan, say he’s wolves through and through, don’t want to leave, not gunna leave etc. if you strip it back, he has no real affiliation to us other than Fosun are his pay master.

I hope he stays, and I hope he doesn’t sulk/down tools. It’s a sorry state of affairs with modern day football that loads of people will say he deserves credit for it. Bollocks. It’s the least a professional should do whilst their under contract

I mean, that's all well and good, but footballers soak up the adulation and image rights and worldwide fame and all the extra money that brings. Can't then turn it off and say it's purely mercenary and just like you're an Aldi branch manager being headhunted by Tesco.

Also, I don't expect players to be here for years like Neves, but if he leaves less than two months after his move became permanent, that takes the absolute piss, and I'm not going to agree with people normalising it to look nonchalant and 'realistic'

That bastard Afobe pissed off 2 days after he signed permanently. JSL has earned a testimonial on that scale
Then we replaced him with Jiminez doubt we'll ever upgrade a position like that again under Fosun

This is a good debate.
I have to say I kind of agree with the whole argument that if he moved up north, he would be playing European football, he would be playing in front of a bigger louder crowd, (And he does seem to recognise that) and of course he would probably be playing for more money per week. I get all that.
Then you have the counter side where he seems to be a nice bloke and to a point is being professional in that he's not agitating and being a twat about it.... but, the needle swings slightly against him in that all these elements we're discussing were exactly there a few weeks ago when he signed with enthusiastic happiness, his new happily negotiated contract.
So to say he's not agitating for a move but has within weeks of signing (And also being offered a new contract by us already) gone public in stating he would like the move to Newcastle if it's ok with you Jeff, is just a bit of a pisser.
So the going public thing slightly tarnishes his 'I'm not agitating' stance somewhat.
Shame.

Did JSL actually publicly say that he wanted to leave ?
Or was that just claimed by someone on a tweet but never confirmed?
He hasn't publicly said it.

I would say Shi has said he has as part of his own public stance on keeping him.

I mean he didn’t post it on his Instagram 😂

But as the saying goes “there’s no smoke without fire”. My guess is it was leaked by his representatives.

No that’s fair too and I totally get your point of view. In a world or mercenaries I get it gets normalised abit. Totally different world

Not really bothered if he was interested in the move, he always comes across as a decent sort and a decent professional. These are long term attributes which have played a part in getting him to where he is and he doesn’t come across as the sulky type (Cunha, Silva, the Man City second choice right back). I reckon he will be fine and knows full well if he puts it on the pitch opportunities will come.
