The Transfer Thread 2023/24 - Everything Not Wolves

Imagine a new rule being bought in to stop the transfer of someone with more bookings than goal involvements from a joke shop league that plays thinly veiled, half paced friendlies in the desert.

If the deal they actually wanted had gone through and FC sportswash were in line to pick up new £259m signing Mbappe on loan and utterly destroy FFP how would you feel about that Mark?

It’s not the player, it’s the process that needs to be stopped

No-one cared that much when Pozzo was doing it with his little harem so why now? Is it the players involved or the source of the money that makes it worse?

Granada and Udinese have to adhere to financial rules in their respective leagues whilst also remaining competitive within them. Saudi clubs neither applies because of the money situation and they just play “half paced friendlies”.

No one has really being looking at the trading of second and third rate players and seeing anything that’s clearly dodgy, other than the Kamara deal, but someone actually had to pay for him and the fee wasn’t outrageous.

I think loaning one of another clubs best players and then just handing him back is a little different…

Because it’s a whole different volume and would involve getting a quarter of a billion player for nil value in terms of FFP if Mbappe hadn’t told them to get bent in August. The Saudi league will become a talent parking lot to get around the rules. Way different scale.

Plus you can guarantee that the Saudi club paying the marquee player £1m a week will mysteriously happily loan him to the club with an FFP barrier while still paying 95% of the wages. It makes no difference to the player’s bank account. It makes no difference to the overall amount paid out by the Sportswash authorities, it makes all the difference to the FFP calculation.

Assuming Kylian had said yes rather than sticking at PSG as he wants the Bernebeu, then the Saudi club hand over the £259 million, pay him a million a week, and now loan him to Newcastle with no fee whatsoever and maybe £40k a week through the Newcastle books for FFP. It’s blatant. And they have four pet clubs without FFP restriction there ready to do this again and again.

It might be Neves in January, but if this stable door isn’t bolted it will end up being all the top talent moving this way. So the Saudis end up with Newcastle having a roster that makes Manchester City look like Walsall and they won’t breach the rules in doing it.

Actually if they are getting 95% of their wages in Saudi it makes a huge positive difference to their bank account.

So Manchester United want Griezmann. And their main temptation as their side is quite shit is to offer to treble his current Atleti wages.

United quite simply never learn.
