Exciting, but frustrating at the same time

Some great forward play with some cock ups at the back & helped by a soft penalty

Hard to tell from the commentary as to who played the best, but Jota again prominent & Cav sounded good in the second half. N'Daiye also appeared to be more than useful

14 pts from 7 so still a good start

Wolves 3 - 3 Bristol City: Probably something about the ref again.

Gonna need a moment to collect my thoughts on that.

Cracking game of football and I can honestly say we deserved to win by a distance. Some of our football going forward was electric the front 3 a constant menace.

Cav stays in now really looked a threat they had to foul him and Jota to stop them.

Bonatini revelling in the movement around him and so clever with his flicks and lay offs. He was in better areas today and could have had a few.

The goals conceeded whilst poor were fortunate for Bristol, first was deflected, 2nd a very dubious penalty ok 3rd is just shit.

With Boly to return we will be better Batth played well tonight but his passing let him down at times.

I enjoyed that as frustrating as it was.

Even from just following from a distance and seeing a few clips I'm pretty pissed off we haven't won that.

Apparently their third goal was offside?

I bloody hope not we have had no luck tonight. Wounds gaping open let's pour some salt in.

This is the first game I've watched this season (through Wolves TV live feed) and must say that I'm seriously impressed with the football being played by Wolves. Cav for me was outstanding, as were Jota, Bonatini, Vinagre, and N'Daiye.

As a former referee and assessor, I do have a question (since I was surprised by some of the ref's decisions in the second half). I thought the application of the VAR was to be used whenever there was a game-changing or goal scoring opportunity. Hence, I was expecting the dubious penalty decision to be reviewed: 1) because the referee could not see the handball from his positioning, and 2) the AR on that side did not flag for the penalty (if I am remembering the incident correctly). So, a replay would have been most informative, not just for me but, more importantly, for the referee and hence the game. Or is there no VAR operative in the Championship, only goal-line technology?

By asking the above question, you can tell that if I had been an assessor for this game, I would have been having a serious de-briefing of that call and one other with the referee.

There is no VAR in English football at all at the moment mate.

We played really well, if we continue to play like that we'll have a great season. It really looks like we're starting to gel. N'daye made a big difference and gave us extra mobility in the middle of the park. I think Saiss may be better employed as a CB.

I thought the entire team played well with Jota, Cav and Vinagre the stand outs. If we had a RWB with vinagres ability we'd be amazing, that's not to say Doc was poor. He did a lot of good things down the right.

I thought we defended well and restricted brizzle chances, the first goal was spawny and Neves missed his kick. Harsh pen for the second and then a scramble from a corner for the third.

I'm positive after this game.

Good to get some perspective from someone who is assessing refs thanks for that Van Wolfie.

It's very hard when you are all emotional not to be biased but some of those decisions were really bad and I'm sure cost us 2 points.

Hopefully we will get VAR sooner rather than later the nerves can't take too many more games like that.

After watching the highlights no way is that a pen, vinagres arms were consistent with how he was moving. No way he could do anything about it.

Championship referees are rubbish

Will need to wait to see the match back when the video is alive in the UK to see how much of a penalty that was. Changed the game somewhat as we had gone ahead & were in the ascendancy, another goal for us in that period would have killed the game.

We do need to sort our our defending from set pieces though as many teams in this division will see that as gaining them a good percentage of their goals

I guess I'm old school in that I believe very strongly that a good referee must be so inconspicuous that one doesn't know that he's there. In the first half, that was the case but in the second he began to deviate from that principle.

That's why I have commented on this decision (which I rarely do) because, in taking away the momentum from Wolves who were very much in the ascendancy at that point, the penalty had a game-changing effect. Hence, it must be indisputable to be given.

Great game. Conceded some shit goals. Not too disappointed, City looked a decent team so draw not too bad. Had the chances to win for sure.

Lot of good performances, Neves only disappointing one.

You've just got to accept those games. Sometimes you dominate games and don't win.

I thought we were absolutely superb going forward tonight, there were 4 or 5 close shaves for them tonight which could easily have ended up in the back of the net.

Also, the ref was fucking abysmal. How he didn't give the pen on Batth I have no idea.

As I rarely get the chance to do ratings, I have to do it when I can.

Ruddy - 6: Outside of the goals, he wasn't asked to do a great deal. Made one decent leaping save toward the end from Paterson. Looked reasonable enough claiming high balls. Not really to blame on any goal.

Doherty - 8: Say what you want about him, this was easily the best I've ever seen him play. Was a consistent threat going forward and didn't get exposed defensively. Even has a decent number of party tricks in the opposition box. Supported Cav and later Bright well on the overlap.

Batth - 7: Scored the crucial goal at the end and really put his body on the line throughout. Took a couple of really strong hits to the head that didn't appear to affect his overall play. Doesn't move the ball on quickly enough in possession but he was never likely to improve that side of his game at this point.

Coady - 6: Misplaced a couple of passes in the first half and had a relatively quiet game. Contained Diedhiou well and didn't make any mistakes.

Miranda - 5: Struggles at times with long balls forward and if he has to lunge into a challenge you can't be sure he'll actually get there. He looks calm on the ball though and I think that makes him crucial to the way we play. Also missed an early opportunity that I feel he should have scored.

Vinagre - 7: Faded in the second half but at times he looked completely unplayable. Deceptively strong for his size, holds the ball brilliantly, and his first time touch to assist Bonatini's goal was exceptional.

N'Diaye - 8: He was everywhere, tackled well, ran well, covered well, and even played a great ball to Vinagre to help with the opening goal. I've never known him to have the license to get forward at his previous clubs and he really looks to be relishing the added responsibility.

Neves - 6: Thought the game passed him by a bit. Didn't have his usual range of passing but he didn't do anything particularly bad. Just didn't influence the game like I felt he should be.

Cavaleiro - 7: For the 25 minutes he was on the pitch in the 2nd half he was absolutely unbelievable. Had the beating of every defender he took on and every ball he put in the box was dangerous. Also played the corner that Jota scored from. He was way off the pace in the first half, however, which is why he's only a 7 for me.

Bonatini - 5: I didn't see anything particularly good from him. I know from the matchday thread that others will disagree with this but he didn't win challenges in the air and didn't do a great job holding play up. I didn't see any particularly good flicks or range of passing from him and he didn't seem to be making any particularly smart runs. I really don't know what he brings to the table for this team on that evidence.

Jota - 9: My MOTM. So much good play came down his side as he combined with Vinagre. Has a little bit of everything; plays one-twos with everyone, looks to run off the shoulder of the defender, and every time he lines up a shot you feel it could go in. Also has a keen sense of positioning. A complete forward; I'd look to play him centrally in the future.

Saiss - N/A: Subbed on for Miranda and didn't do anything to draw ire.

Bright - N/A: Had a couple of good attacking moments but didn't create anything that resulted in a goal. Probably should have been awarded a penalty not long after coming on.

Marshall - N/A: Do we have a more consistent crosser of the ball than him? Not a great athlete but a great footballer. Quality ball in that created Batth's equalizer.

We score three and still don't win. We miss countless chances as well, however the way we got forward who needs viagra to keep my fiddlestick up right.
