Wolves Loan Watch 2025/2026

Can only presume Hobbs was blinded by the fact he’d played a number of CL matches and failed to actually see that he’s just not very good. Theo one could become competent but it’s highly unlikely and where he’s starting from £2m would have been a risky punt.

It was obvious he wasn't up to it when the manager trusted every other CB in the building over him, but we still got the contrary patience brigade on here making out he was some kind of callow teen and would come good at some mythical future time

Nothing wrong in wanting to give players time to be a success here. Especially ones moving to a new country.
Will always want the best from them and willing to wait. If it turns out they are going to be a dud for us, then so be it but will not change how I think.

What we do need is more honesty from those doing the buying though. He was never a for the now player but was sold to us as one that would be.
Its this kind of signing that helped Vitor gain the power from Hobbs, so not all bad.

What good is there in being 'willing to wait' for an emergency CB signing made when we were looking like relegation fodder?

Nothing wrong with calling out possible inadequacy early on or questioning a signing (or a transfer window, for that matter) after a reasonable amount of time/games have passed.

It's just painted as a superfan move on here to give things an inordinate amount of time to make an assessment

Willing to wait - Because not everything needs to have negativity attached to it. We sign a player, I want him to be a success. If its clear he isn't ready...then I'll wait before going in 2 feet on them.
I watched him a few weeks back and he was ok, nothing special but a decent level. Probably not good enough for the PL but a season progressing and you never know. However he has somewhat dropped off from tbst accepted level with a red card and his then his horror show last night. We can pretty much path out his career with us going forward and some like yourself made that call months ago. Nothing super fan about it from my point of view, just who I am and how I look at things

There is nothing wrong with calling out or questioning a signing but can still give the player a chance.

My point on the transparency- We had Danso agreed but got gazumped and we swiftly moved to Djiga. Now on the face of it, it should have been a like for like player. In reality Hobbs took an opportunity to get a player on his potential list ahead of schedule. It should have been sold to us exactly as it was...but it wasnt.

Could it be that they hoped/expected he would end up taking Doherty's place? But due to both Doc's good form and Djiga's poor form that just didn't happen!?

Some signings work, some don't.

Well done PK you're awesome 👌

Hobbs probably did.
Not so sure about Vitor's thinking though.

That's on the recruitment team though not the player.

You can't dismiss a players potential because the recruitment team it wrong.

As it happens though i don't think Djiga will be any good for us, but that's not because he was bought in to be an emergency CB

Who went in two footed on Djiga at the end of last season? It's misleading language that straight away makes out that criticism is extreme, when it's not.

We had the same thing with some fair but underwhelmed 'first impressions' comments on Wolfe at the weekend. You'd think people had swam over to Norway and kicked fuck out of his parents.

Assessing players at any part of their time with us (and even having opinions, concerns or being excited before they join) is a perfectly normal thing for fans to do. Negative, reasoned criticism is normal

Agree with your last point on transparency

There are tons of comments on here writing Djiga off.

I suspect I’ve been guilty of ‘writing him off’. Reflecting on the above perhaps it would be better to say ‘I think it was a poor signing’. That’s more rounded in terms of the context that inescapably matters, which includes whether we’ve signed anyone else as it’s likely to have taken cost and resource that’s limited. If we were to sign someone this week who needed 18 months to realise their potential, and it cost us £10m, I think that too would be a poor signing. Likely a good one if we already had an acceptable squad.

Very well reasoned, but I'm not sure why you have to justify saying a signing looks duff, on a football forum.

Well done all the anointed ones on here who never write any players off, except when they do

It's hardly a character assassination to highlight that Djiga will not have any kind of career at Wolves, it's just not going to happen.

As others have said, for where we were at the time of the signing he needed to perform from the off, he didn't.

I don't really understand who you are arguing with. The consensus seems to be that's he's poor, with a few saying he might get better?

Big difference in never writing players off and simply saying, I'll see how he gets on before forming a solid opinion on him as a player.

Let's just say I put less effort into deciding what I think on players than Djiga does chasing a long punt towards his keeper.
