Wolves Loan Watch 2025/2026

I appreciate there were better candidates that could have been signed last January for the situation we were in (another failure on the recruitment front) ahead of Djiga, but I also revert back to the Agbadou point from last night. Did he look decent or like he'd be able to cut the mustard in the PL when he was trudging around the Tunisian league at the age of 22? Of course not.

Players develop differently. A full season in the pressure cooker environment of Ibrox will do him the world of good and he’ll either sink or swim. Then we’ll have a better idea of whether he can actually play a part in our squad here moving forward. People scoff at the quality of Scottish football (rightly so), but there won’t be a Wolves fan out there who wouldn’t want us competing in those European games under the lights like Rangers were taking part in last night - so it’s a great experience for him.

To summarise - probably the wrong player in terms of what we needed last season. But also, it’s probably too early to write him off completely right now.

It may be that Djiga created the competition for places required for Doc to maintain his good form.
You could spin it that way if you wish?

Equally you could say that having Agbadou alongside him raised his game?

I think both arguments are spurious at best.

What you can say is that the competition for the centre half positions at Wolves is pretty bleak! That Djiga couldn't force his way in to those starting positions or even first choice off the bench should paint it's own picture.

Big difference in never writing players off and simply saying, I'll see how he gets on before forming a solid opinion on him as a player.

It was impossible to see 'how he gets on' as he practically never played. So all you had to go on was the fact that he was at the back of the queue of a less-than-stellar defensive selection, and that the manager didn't fancy him. And now he's been bumped off on loan.

Writing a player off and writing a signing off aren't necessarily the same thing. I think he'll prove to be a poor signing for my club, and I couldn't care less about the player's career after that. See: Fabio Silva.

It's not going in 'two footed' though, is it?

Plenty of comments writing off Fabio, Munetsi, Doyle, so what?
And you got really upset on here when people criticised Munetsi and the fee we paid for him early on. In fact, your direct comparison was with Djiga at the time when none of us had seen him play yet.

Anyway, we’ll all really like him when he is starting alongside Toti next season in the championship under Russell Martin

Because Munetsi was at least contributing, and there were plenty of regulars writing him off

There were and are, but still early to write either off tbh. I think Munetsi is a strange footballer but I’m content with him as a squad option (and I thought he was alright on Saturday - just wish he knew the offside law).

Djiga it’s clear Vitor has Doc and Mosquera ahead of him. So let him play for a season somewhere regularly. This is a guy who’s played a decent amount of games for his age, for a big club in that country and in the champions league. Sounds like he had a stinker against Brugge but that’s one game and for a manager who would eat himself if he was chocolate. I think Hobbs generally had a good eye for potential/talent, so I’m not as convinced as others that he’s hopeless.

That's a bit reactive, under VP up until we were safe the CBs defended well and were a good unit.

Obviously helped by RAN and Semedo, they took a huge load off.

For the record, I'm writing Djiga off ✍️

I do think it’s a lot more fair to write him off now than it was a month ago. Getting loaned to a side in Scotland, even Rangers, is pretty damning.

I hope he does well for himself but right now I’m not expecting it to be in a premier top flight.

What’s his CB partner(s) like? If they’re also poor we’ll learn even less about Djiga. Defensive chemistry is so underrated IMV.

Harry Souttar, who is like a Poundland Harry Maguire

Yet he looked better than Djiga at times from what I have seen. He had the clearance the other night when the attacker ran off Nassers inside view and he just didn't track him, would have had a tap in had Souttar not put it out.
