The third-tier side have been in a promotion battle this season but it has emerged the club did not submit a promotion application

Shi had told the Wolves management but they decided not to tell the players until the end of the season. So the miscommunication was down to them, as they (perhaps understandably) thought it was the best route.
The Athletic article is quite strange. For example:
"The news has raised concerns that Wolves might now lose their best players and coaches this summer. Head of women’s football Jenna Burke-Martin recently handed in her resignation — she is leaving for a role elsewhere — and others might follow suit."
"Time will tell but sources who spoke to
The Athletic fear that players and coaching staff will be tempted to leave Wolves."
Yet they also say this.
"But owner Fosun has made no secret of how it views the women’s team as a vehicle for participation rather than a chance to reach elite, full-time football, according to recent conversations
The Athletic has held with senior officials."
So, there won't be a
fear about losing players. It's our model. To give these players and coaches a chance to participate and they move on if they want, and there probably would be a sense of pride if one of our players went on to play in the WSL or for the Lionesses.
The story here is Wolves don't want to invest in the Women's team. People may feel that should be addressed but it's blown up in the past few days over nothing. The miscommunication was on the Women's management team and our overall supposed lack of investment has been the case for years.
