womens world cup?

After the US sent people to check out the England hotel so they can move into it after they win the semi final match, I hope England stuff them the arrogant pricks

seems like regular due diligence that any team would need to do. didn't' really have a problem with that, seemed like a big deal made out of nothing.

also you seem to somehow suggest that event swapped your allegiences... :icon_lol:

Wasn't particularly interested in the WWC so, yeah, I've switched to wanting England to beat the arrogant U S of A :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

No-one really cares. I actually watched the last game (and kept quiet on here as apparently, I'm not allowed to call out awful football when I see it). There's some ok technical ability on show. And I mean ok. But so many nonsense misplaced passes. Like, four or five 3-on-3 breaks and none of them worked because the pass was appalling (not even close). The game switches from end to end quite a bit, but mainly because the ball gets given away so frequently under no pressure. The tackling is non-existent, it's like watching Steve Corica go in for every ball. And the goalkeeping on the "superb strike" for the third goal was a joke. I mean I'm not even having a go, the competition should exist and if people want to support it, fine. But it's a poor product. If I go to a restaurant and get a terrible burger that tastes appalling and falls apart, I'll understand if I subsequently learn that it was created by a chef with one eye, three fingers and severe dyspraxia. Fine and I wouldn't have a go, but said understanding doesn't improve my food, it shouldn't be served in a restaurant.

I will watch again tonight but I don't care who wins, it's in the absence of there being anything else on. Those who do "care" will care for about 0.1 seconds if England lose.

I'll give you my considered verdict at the end.

I thought that about the goalkeeping on her "wonder strike" too.

I watched a bit of it on Saturday and the goalkeeping was terrible. Lots of goals straight through their hands/fingers. Some of the approach play is alright, but as Dan said, the tackling is pretty much nonexistent.

I have seen hardly any of this World Cup, mainly because I dont enjoy watching women's football, however I will be tuning in tonight as my boy wants to watch. I will obviously want England to win but will give zero f's if we lose, which I anticipate we will.

Hopefully all the bars in town remain ok following the undoubted riots when we are eliminated.

Much as I defend the right for it to be on terrestrial TV and think it's unfair to judge it against the male game at any level I won't be watching. I hope England win as I would in any sport, I'm interested enough to want to know the result but not enough to watch.

Kinda intrigued by Julie Ertz though just because of who she's married to.

per friend of mine...

"Oh, I say. This team that's won the cup three times as well as four gold medals is acting like they're the favorites against our team, which has won nothing ever. I mean, just because everyone expects them to win doesn't mean they're the favorites. Well, I suppose it does, but they shouldn't act like it." - All English people everywhere without exception, don't @ me.

"Also, despite them very much not being so - and in fact their unequal compensation is a massive dispute known to pretty much everyone who follows the game at all - we're going to claim they're all multi-millionaires as well, since that will make us seem more plucky!" - Ibid.

I guess Americans have to cling onto any team that is rated close to #1 in the World at something because their men's team never will

"close to #1"? Pretty firmly in the #1 spot, I think you'll find. Rather than celebrate and support our womens success, I suppose we should act more like England, and focus on all those mens victories from... well you know what I couldn't even say, as it all happened well before I was born. :D

No Rapinoe for the USA. That's a big surprise.

WHAT

guessing she has a knock

Alright boys let’s get this started! (Half)joking smack talk aside this should be a fun match, good luck to all.

Definitely should be behind already. Giving the ball away repeatedly on the edge of your own box is NEVER a good idea.

Did not realise the US team had a player called Lavelle.

Not my branch of the family, probably one of the million Irish with that name. Or "Irish" as they are now.

Held off eating to take a late lunch to watch at local Mexican restaurant. Lots of people here with their excited daughters.

No one cares indeed

Absolutely this - I’m watching so my daughter can see girls playing footy on tv.

They’re all so slow though.

And awful defending at the back post, 1-0

No, we don't care.

I know the womens and men's teams have more or less equivalence in America. Over here - it's an irrelevance, seriously.
