Get well soon, Raul

I've seen people come in with a fracture and not have an op, same as a bleed. Not sure what happens after discharge though. Who knows yet

Absolutely gutted for Raul and hope he gets better ASAP for his and his family’s sake.

On footballing terms I seriously doubt we’ll see him again this season which is a crying shame for him. I’ve no idea about the extent of the injury but the club statement didn’t fill me with promise. Maybe I was reading too much into it, I don’t know.

Get well soon Raul.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same, I would be amazed if he played again this season. If it's even more serious than that I genuinely think I would cry.

What I love about Wolves is how much of a "pack" / family we are.

I'm sure if you followed any other club you'd feel the same way about your team, but as a Wolves fan we follow the lives of our players so much more than just the 90 mins on the pitch.

It's great to see their families open up on social media and see them out and about without getting any hassle. It must be one of the major factors to keep the likes of Raul at the club.

I think he's alluded to this in the past (the fact he can walk his dogs without any hint of bother)

Couldn't watch the match properly after Raul's injury & whilst I hope that he fully recovers enough to be able to play again for us if he (with his family) decide that the risk is too great then I wish him sucess & hapiness for whatever he goes on to do & thank him for his efforts & skill & the joy that he has given us over the last 2 and a bit years.

Not just us, my mate Villa STH text me to say "praying for Jimenez mate, shocking"

My Vale season ticket holding mates did too.

Football fans are good eggs in the main.

There's so much that can go wrong. Whether he ever plays again is totally immaterial right now, as others have pointed out.

Feels almost bad to say it, but not sure what else I can say. Thoughts and prayers with him and his family.

Ryan Mason is very much the exception. Very few players are forced to retire through this kind of injury and it isn't that uncommon.

It's a relief to hear that - I think you only ever hear about the worst case skull fractures, as opposed to ones that are recoverable.

As an aside, how blood curdling was the sound of sirens as they wheeled Raul round the pitch ?

I do hope and pray that Raul has a full recovery. He's a wonderful character who has given Wolves and Mexico a tremendous stimulus in how he plays and the goals he scores and makes. When he is on song, the football is fascinating to watch. I feel for him greatly.

Having had a serious head injury when I nearly died in 2019, I realize that he will experience considerable trauma. Medics can address the head injury surgically but the trauma survives. It will take him some time before he is ready to play football again. However, he's 50 years younger than me, so he'll probably make it. But we must give him time to heal physically and mentally. Life is more important than football and I wish him well because he has experienced a most unfortunate and serious set-back.

With any luck he won't remember a thing about it

Echoing everyone else's sentiments. Really wishing him a speedy recovery for firstly his family, and then for his club and fans. I really hope it's not as bad an injury as it can be, and he's back playing sooner rather than later.

He may not remember much but he will feel it for a long time. I have to assume you've never had a serious accident like this, otherwise you wouldn't be so dismissive. Remember, Raul had just headed the ball out. To do that he flicks his head up-field. So the collision was magnified by his own head flick as well as Luiz's torpedo-like thrust. If you read the report from the skull and brain specialists in the B'ham Mail, you'll understand that healing the skull fracture is the easy part. It's very likely, given Raul's head movement, that some of his brain cells could have been overstretched and the consequences of that could be far-reaching. I most certainly hope not—but now is not the time to be frivolous about the seriousness of the injury.

Mentally I think he'll be fine although everyone is different. When I got assaulted in the summer and got head injuries (didn't knock any sense into me, sad to say), I wanted to get straight back out there and not let it impact on me, and Raul is a thousand times the man that I am. I think that side of it will be fine.

Physically, none of us can say at this point as we don't know what the extent of the injury is. A fractured skull can cover a litany of different injuries.

History suggests that it tends not to be a career-ender. Can be of course, but then there was once a goalkeeper who once had his career ended by having a dog run into him. I think you'd generally take your chances there.

He's unlikely to stop being the same player that he was 36 hours ago, I don't see him shying away from challenges in the future when he's fit, which I have no doubt he will be in time. And we'll look after him until then.

Someone is sharing Instagram stories to his account from those sending him well wishes. Fingers crossed it is him.
