REFERENDUM RESULTS AND DISCUSSION THREAD

I’m rather glad that I will only have to put up with six months or so of the post Brexit shit show before I am out of here.

The Sun are reporting it like this. I find the phraseology interesting. I wonder if the RWP are ready to turn on Johnson? They can't on Brexit itself they are too entwined

"Boris Johnson’s Withdrawal Agreement keeps the UK hooked to payments issued by EU agencies."

The French attitude to the Dinghy invasion is quite entertaining. We deserve it. Priti Vacant calling in the Navy is just the usual call back to the war

Thing is,the navy can't blow the dinghies out of the water, even though the sun, daily mail, express, telegraph and Patel want that to happen,if they intercept them, they have to rescue them and bring them to the uk.
If only there was a union in Europe,a European Union as it were, that we were part of that we could talk with to try and sort this amicably with the next closest country to us,but hey takin Are CunTRy baK and cLoSE arE boarDErs and all that

That absolute bellend David Frost:

He said: "The EU is still insisting not only that we must accept continuity with EU state aid and fisheries policy, but also that this must be agreed before any further substantive work can be done in any other area of the negotiation, including on legal texts. This makes it unnecessarily difficult to make progress.

"There are other significant areas which remain to be resolved and, even where there is a broad understanding between negotiators, there is a lot of detail to work through. Time is short for both sides."

1) You know why they want everything in writing? Because we have a proven track record of reneging almost immediately on what we've just verbally agreed. In fact we're trying to weasel out of the non-binding parts of the Withdrawal Agreement as we speak.

2) Yes, time is short. You know why this is? Because you put an arbitrary deadline on it and refuse to extend it.

Being told "no deal is a bad thing" should confuse their readership.

Reading would probably confuse their 'readership'.

It’s damning that when even the heil is excoriating that fat cunt in number ten the Express is still trying to blame the EU for the shit show about to come.

Jonathan Jones, Head of the government legal department, quits over attempts to backtrack on parts of the WA.

So have I got this right? We can't agree a deal at the moment and we are threatening to walk away from one because we can't agree state aid rules but......

If we walk away with no deal, we will be still subject to the state aid rules set by the EU anyway as the NI protocol in the withdrawal agreement allows the EU to take us to court if we break them?

Brandon Lewis

As a responsible government we cannot allow businesses to not have certainty for January.

So the options are/were

1) Extend the transition period.
2) Agree a deal.

So we'll take the responsible action of reneging on an international treaty, thus further scuppering the chances of getting a deal rather than taking the irresponsible decision that was available - to extend the transition period.

From the gruniad...

Lewis admits government plan will breach international law
Sir Bob Neill, the Conservative chair of the Commons justice committee, says obeying the law is not negotiable. Does this plan break international law?

Lewis says it does break international law in a limited way. But he claims there is precedent for this.

Brandon Lewis confirms the Government will break international law on EU Withdrawal Deal:

"Yes, this does break international law in a very specific and limited way".

How do you break the law in specific and limited way?

"I only broke into one house your honour, and only nicked his TV"

"Ok, that seems fine"
