I'd love a decent craft beer bar in Wolves but never going to happen, this sounds more in line with the Lych Gate unfortunately maybe with a few craft ones thrown in.
Slaters was the last place to cater for craft and lasted about 18 months.
Oh they're definitely not.BCA pubs are great, not sure they are craft beer bars though.
I like BCA pubs, our local is great, proper old fashioned pub in it's atmosphere. I like most of their own ales but they always have guest ales on too which can be variable, enjoyed a few pints of Salopian Oracle last night, nice and refreshing this weather.BCA pubs are great, not sure they are craft beer bars though.
This is a challenging post to write!
Unfortunely, I’m sad to say that the time has come to close the pub.
It has been 15 years of the most rewarding, challenging, mental, funny, difficult, enjoyable experiences of my life.
It’s given me so many great memories, friendships and laughs I’ll carry with me forever- (along with my massively increased beer belly).
Unfortunately, the way this trade has been since COVID with people working from home, it has halved our trade. The cost of our bottles since Brexit has made them about 30% more expensive (even after lowering our GP) whilst the available range has cut down by 50%. Obviously that’s not good when your USP is rare imported beers.
Like so many others in this industry, we’ve done everything we can to battle through and keep going, but it’s just no longer sustainable for us sadly. It’s too late for us but may not be for our other independent pubs so please support them before it’s too late.
Thank you to all the regulars who supported us over the years (you all know who you are)- you made the place what it was. It’s been a privilege to serve you all whilst talking/listening/laughing about an ungodly amount of nonsense.
I want to say one thing above all else though:
Thank you to ALL my staff. Without you working so hard and being such a great team this message would have been posted ages ago.
You are all truly my friends, not just my employees.
For the final time I’ll say…
THAT’S TIME GUYS!
I think it's immediately, unfortunatelyImmediately? I'm out in Brum next month so would be nice to give it a final visit given the opportunity.
Something that will always be a bit of a struggle in that venue really - small, awkward shape and underground but it's place you'd visit knowing that's what you were getting and it was the selection of beers available that they made their selling point.Shame to see it close.
Never been one of my favourite places to grab a drink In Birmingham too be fair, convenience was the main thing going for it. I've tended to gravitate towards The Colmore in more recent years.
Whilst I'm sure the comment about post-covid drinking habits are true, you also need to provide an attractive environment to have your drinks in, especially in a competitive city, and I don't think they have managed that recently.
