Good people of Britain...........PANIC

But where I am is actually a little pertinent.

Because of the usual climate here, every building (pretty much) has air conditioning. That wouldn't be worthwhile in the UK. But when we get a cold snap (there have been a few frosty nights here in a row as we are 1,000 metres up) everyone has to fire up their wood burners as nobody has radiators.

Dunno what folk are whingeing about, the weather in this country is brilliant. We hardly ever get any really bad or difficult weather.
It's not like it's year round wet, cold, overly hot. No hurricanes etc, snows once in a blue moon. We must have had about 6 weeks this year already sunny and warm.

If they have aircon surely they can be set to 'warm'...

When the Aussies bang on about their weather...

The Walcha Road Hotel at 3pm today as the snow fell. The pub is located in the New England region of North West NSW...

I feel like "just down the road" in Australia means something very different to "just down the road" here.

We’ve got a lady in the cycling club currently riding through that nightmare on the London-Edinburgh-London audax. 952 miles over 4 days. Started yesterday ending the first day covering 246 miles, currently crossing the Pennines arriving in Edinburgh later today.

Noticed the Edinburgh tattoo is cancelled but no idea if the ride will be or not. People doing those sort of events are of a very particular mindset so I guess they’ll just power on but apparently it’s blowing like a good un and pissing down at the moment. Sounds like misery.

With apologies to @Lycan "LNER have advised travellers not to go further north than Newcastle". I always thought that was part of their normal T&Cs?

Won't be too bad if it's a tailwind. She might complete it in 3 days.

I don’t know. Her last sector was the slowest I’ve ever known so conditions must be dreadful. No doubt very hilly now and looks like a 50-70 mph side wind. Got to be very dangerous riding with gusts like that.

Running 70th out of 550 but there must be a load dropping out in those conditions. The guy leading has cleared Edinburgh and on the way back, looking at the current av speed our lady won’t get there til late tonight. A few hours sleep and off again in the early hours. Side wind again tomorrow so no assistance, but at least around 20mph mark.

I wouldn’t ride to the pub in those conditions but I guess people doing that sort of thing are a special breed.
