Keir Starmer at it again..

I mean you literally posted the fantasy situation of him not losing an election that he lost. I think that's suggesting stuff about Jeremy Corbyn.

I'm not belittling you, I'm pointing out the inherent fallacy in what you suggested. I don't particularly need the psychoanalysis as well as the withering criticism of my amazing online comedy but you carry on.

That claim has been repeatedly debunked.

What has been debunked? You have just confirmed what I wrote. Labour could have been in a position to form a coalition, I didn’t comment on the likelihood of it happening. Yes, those 2000 odd votes relate to very specific constituencies but had they gone the other way there was a hypothetical situation where Labour could have been in that position.

Labour were also second in 21 seats where the majority was less than 1000. These are close results where a small additional swing could have shifted the results.

What has been debunked is that Corbyn was a couple of thousand votes away from power. No. He was a couple of thousand votes away from being told to fuck off by every potential coalition partner.

Think back to when there was talk of a grand coalition during the Brexit crisis. Every other partty predicated their support on the condition that JC could not be PM.

So. How many votes would Corbyn have needed to be PM as leader of a party with a parliamentary majority?

Because everything else is circlejerking fanfiction.

And also, regarding the whole 'the public like his policies' point.

I like his policies. I just think hes an awful human being.

The UK PM has vast prerogative powers. JC as PM, for example, could recall our entire nuclear deterrent back to base and stay there.

His powers are well described here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powers_of_the_prime_minister_of_the_United_Kingdom

I would rather those powers werent vested in someone whose political philosophy never got further than listening to 'Imagine'

Seriously, I would love a progressive socialist programme. But find a cheerleader who isnt a fucking idiot who I wouldnt trust with my car keys.

Yvette Cooper would have not only been the first female leader of the Labour Party but likely to have been it’s first female prime minister if it hadn’t been for that twat who was intent on turning the Labour Party into a party of protest

Ah yes, that Yvette Cooper who waived through austerity with barely a whimper. Yay.

No idea why people say the far left are misogynists.

Winter Fuel payment U-Turn

Any pensioner earning less than £35,000 a year will now be eligible for the £200 or £300 payment each year.

Is that less than £35,000 for ANY pensioner or Household income? Does it need only one to be below 35?

35 grand is nearly 3k a month, 6 if there’s two of you. That seems a decent wedge to me. If one is working and one below 35k then presumably there’s no household ceiling at all which seems crazy.

Must be missing something obvious here?

Release just says any pensioner, guess details to follow.

Its a high ceiling as my MiL will again be eligible but she doesn't need it.

They are saying 75% of pensioners will be eligible and gone the other way now. The line where the cut off is really high so not going to have anyone who just fails to get it having to actually worry about it (although the Telegraph will run stories where people getting £70k a year missed out and now they can't afford to heat all 10 bedrooms)
