Olympiacos FC (A) 12/03/20 - Following Nuno, Drinking The Ouzo

Any idea the implications of postponement? Assuming the whole competition goes ahead?

Does it turn into a one-legged affair? Do they reschedule the away leg for after the home leg? Really difficult to see a way through.

with that fat cunt of a chairman positive, i think it will be over for thursday, and so it should. if you believe he has quarantined himself in his house since arriving back in greece, A) you don't know him and thus don't have a hole in your arse, and B) why are all the players and staff off for tests.
he's been in the place since he got back giving instructions on how to win to one and all, including the cleaners.
I expect a positive test amongst the staff before thursday........sadly

Usually postponed games are played quite quickly (there was game in the last round postponed due to the weather but played the next day). The schedule for the Europa right now is tight and if Olympiakos have any player or staff testing postive, then the 14 day window screws up the UEFA calendar. This will be a whole new game for UEFA to sort out. They might say a single game to decide or even flip a coin for the winner.

if this lasts a month or so, then the last 16 games and onwards have to be knockout, venue on the toss of a coin or who has the most coronas!

As the isolation period is 14 days, if the postponement was due to a positive test, you would imagine that the earliest the tie could be started would be midweek before the Villa game (but that is the international break I think so a non-starter). So presumably first and second weeks of April, which puts us a whole round behind everyone else.

I think postponement puts us mighty close to suspension of the competition.

Can see it being suspended myself. With the Euro's taking place in multiple cities this Summer, UEFA won't want to run the risk of teams, staff, fans etc contracting and spreading the virus across Europe as it will literally destroy confidence in the project to host the Euro's across multiple countries.

I do think that the virus will peak and subside before the Euro's begin, but if not, they will have to be shelved also considering the risk of transmission.

The international break might be an option if the clubs were given dispensation to withhold the players from being called up by their national teams. It's a bit unusual but we're coming up on uncharted waters.

surely it is easier to postpone the Euros for a year than fuck up a competition half way through.

Whatever they do will cost UEFA a fuckload of cash and postponing the Euro's will cost them more. So, very very unlikely they will postpone that

I understand that logic, but if it still rife in Europe who the fuck will buy a ticket?

Plus you also have Copa America this summer so you need the South American authorities onside as well. Quite a muddle.

One thing is certain. Under UK current protocols, the entire Forest squad should be in isolation as they were with a carrier on Friday. So their games for the next couple of weeks should be postponed.

Guessing the majority of tickets have already been sold and what is left will be the ones that given to specific FA's should their team progress, so who knows.

Arsenal must have feared being asked to do this after their staff were face to face with the Olympiakos owner so they have annouced all their squad have been tested and all clear

Plus pushing the Euros back one season probably doesn’t work as that summer is going to be extremely curtailed in order to have a minimum of six to eight weeks off in the winter of the next season to all fuck off to Qatar for a winter World Cup.

Think long term and cancel the Qatar World Cup. Job done

"If we have to go (to Olympiakos) we will. But we don't agree - we're not happy to go.
I don't agree with playing football behind closed doors. The main origin of football is to entertain. If the fans cannot attend, what's the point? This is bigger than football.
Behind closed doors doesn't make sense. We're pretending to live a normal life when things aren't normal.
Why not stop (football)? Does it make sense to play a game behind closed doors? Are we sending the right message to say we're OK to have contact and fans can't?"

Hmmm. I understand the sentiment, but plenty of fans would still be watching and being entertained on TV. And as we've discussed, if it's postponed there may not be a competition left for us to play in.

I guess there’s more chance of our players getting it if they are around sweaty Ill players?
