The Film Thread

The Order. Atmospheric and gripping telling of events in the US 40 years ago with a chilling message to the present day.

Just watched Nosferatu. Beautifully shot, great dialogue, fabulous performances and very atmospheric. Not scary though.

Working Man, the usual Jason Statham as ex armed services guy searches for kidnapped girl and gets involved with Russian drugs/human trafficking mob romp.

Alto Knights, Robert de Niro racketeering boss movie based on true story about the mob in 1950s USA.

Am totally embarrassed. I watch a few films but obviously not enough. Sat down to watch a new Jackie Chan film, and noticed during the opening credits that his name is spelt differently. After a few minutes I decided to pause the movie and googled why this might be.
Yep, it's not Jackie Chan at all, but Ke Huy Quan.

Yes, the racism angle has me worried. Chan/Quan is just ignorance, but the implication that Asian guys "all look the same to me" seems unforgivable even if these two do look similar.
Well similar-ish, not remotely identical.

As much as it can be a red flag, there is genuine science behind the idea that people have a difficult time parsing physical nuances in ethnic groups they aren’t exposed to with a lot of regularity. Besides, clear from your reaction that you understand full well what the implications of such a mixup might be but that you absolutely didn’t mean any malice.

“You crackers all look the same” is it’s own cliché for a reason, ay?
