The Fitness Thread

Thought I'd share this here, as it may interest those of you who like running or have done a marathon. If the video appears (as it should) sound on is better:

Couldn't decide whether to put this here or in the board game thread, but decided on here as it may be of more interest to people who run. We're making a board game based on running a marathon, the deck of cards used in the training phase of the game is very heavily based on a marathon running training programme. These create a Fitness Tracker which boosts your movement during the race. Read about the game and what has gone into creating it so far here:

So because fit healthy cunts like you keep posting your runs on here, facebook and pretty much everywhere else, I decided to take up running a couple of months ago. I say running. As anybody that even saw me at my athletic peak on a football pitch would know, I make Nenad Milijas look like Steve Cram.

When I started I couldn't run for more than 30 seconds without needing to walk. My little 3km circuit round the common took over half an hour. Did it in seconds over 20 minutes at the weekend which felt like a big milestone, laughable by comparison to most but I was pretty chuffed.

But. I still can't run for very long, it's like 4 minutes at the absolute top, then I'm walking for 2-3 minutes and going again. I just can't seem to get a proper lung full of air when I'm running. I am asthmatic AF (the pink inhaler too, it's proper) but it's just breathlessness after 3-4 minutes, but it's the same amount of breathless almost regardless of the pace, so even though my 'time is getting quicker', it's just because I'm running faster rather than longer, if that makes sense. Any ideas? I don't want to be long distance, or fast, but I do want to get to sort of 10km in about an hour kind of area

I just did 10km, non stop 😀🤩

Absolutely over the moon tbh, even though it was really slow (85mins), it's miles further than I've ever done before. 10 bloody k!

Ran the line for an under 13s game last Wednesday. The little bar stewards are getting bigger and faster so I had to go beyond a gentle jog to keep up. Nearly a week later and my hamstrings still feel as though they’re going to pop at any sign of exercise.

Haha, when I ran the line for my lads teams, by the time they got to 14 I had to give myself a yard and hope for the best

I think 10k is a real milestone for long distance running (and there is no such thing as slow). I still remember my first 10k, I thought I was dying...but the next one was easier and before long I was running 10 miles every Sunday and heading towards a half marathon. Doesn't matter how far I ran though, the first 20 minutes was always the worst and even now I am much more likely to quit at 2 miles than any distance after that.

Early birthday present arrived today - Adidas Adios Pro 4 under £160 on Start Fitness, and they came with a free pair of running socks. Not bad for a pair of super shoes that cost £220 normally.

I went half a size up (standard Adidas) and the fit is perfect - absolutely love the lockdown and the softness is crazy. Going to use these for the Worcester half marathon next month.... and I'm going to have to try them out at a Parkrun tomorrow.

My running wardrobe is pretty much Adidas or Sudu, nothing else :ROFLMAO:

Different shoe-wise. Not going to get any Sudu shoes. They look a bit rubbish.

Sorry, it's Friday afternoon. Had to be done. They do look good at that price. I have some far too expensive asics endorphin speed 4s which I like, but my knee has next to given up on me so they no longer get used for the intended purpose!

I just got these this week, Brooks Ghost 17s. I've mostly had Brooks because the wide fit helped alleviate ankle pain that I'd started to get a few years ago. I dont get it at all now, but generally stick with them anyway (had some Mizunos that were also very comfortable). 20250815_163532.jpg

I've got some Ghost 14 and don't get on with them at all, they're neither padded or responsive - shame as all other Brooks I've had I have enjoyed.

I've also got some Saucony ride 18 and they're great, responsive enough that you can push the pace but cushioned enough to do some decent miles (I'm in a marathon training block and they're holding up well)
