The Summer 2025 Transfer Window Thread

Plenty of people have been articulating in detail and with various levels of concern precisely why they're concerned, actually, and revising those concerns with new signings/links/news.

If anyone is beating a monotonous drum, then your name's on the list for sure
🙄

Funny how the message that early sales would enable us to bring in players in a timely manner coincided with a very short window for ST renewal.
Our owners are happy to circle the plughole until the inevitable happens at which point I suspect we’ll see parachute payments disappear in the same way the income from Neto and Kilman and now Cunha and RAN has.

Any competent recruitment would have found out long ago whether Sanchez was happy to join or not. They’re taking the piss and doing the bare minimum to try and eke out PL payments for another year.
We buggered ourselves up early doors making the structure change. Whatever was planned before went out of the window.

Said it earlier but no changes and we would have more signings in but they would be from Matt Hobbs big book of British players he knows or is friends with their agent.

We're currently one injury in each position away from fielding any or all of the following in a Premier League game:

Dan Bentley
Santi Bueno
Hugo Bueno

While Matt Doherty and Ki-Jana Hoever will both definitely start in 10 days' time as it stands, I actually don't know who would play in central midfield if one of our main pair were unavailable, and we have Sasa who hasn't kicked a ball since February 2024 as the sole back up to Strand Larsen.

It's a pretty poor state of affairs and you can see why people are itchy about it, and airily implying that it doesn't matter if we lose a load of games early on isn't the way to go.
I haven't said it doesn't matter. I'm not stressed about the first few games at all. We'll certainly do better than last season IMO.

And, a point that seems to evade some, it is quite clear efforts are being made to strengthen our team.

This clubs aims are simple come 17th anything higher is a bonus.
Stay within PSR regulations.
That’s it, if the first aim can be achieved at the cheapest way possible then great.
That’s like staying alive but in a coma - no fun, hope, optimism just existing. And the stupid thing is they don’t make any money out of it either.

We knew realistically three months ago (maybe longer) that Semedo was leaving.

We have not signed a replacement.

I don't believe it is that hard to find someone in world football that wants to play for a Premier League team, isn't too expensive in terms of fee or wages and is better than Ki-Jana Hoever.

"They're trying", "Wait till the window closes"

We've heard this for years now, it just doesn't wash anymore; anyone who isn't trying to be a WUM can see the patterns, cycles and lies at the club quite clearly

I think I've got it now...19 other teams have 38 games to get their points... Wolves have between 30 and 34... got it! 👍

We charge premium prices (without going down that whole road again, but it genuinely is a disgrace) and yet the club arbitrarily places a ceiling on the on field action so that the very best we can hope for is to finish on the outskirts of the top half.

I defy anyone, one single person to say they've enjoyed any of our full seasons since 2020. Five entire seasons in a row where at least a large portion of it has been stinking, honking, eye watering shite. That's even worse than the 90s, you'd have to go back the darkest days in the 80s for that.

We have a manager who they got lucky on last Christmas who they aren't backing adequately, which is just buffoonery of Jonathan Hayward levels.

We have no depth whatsoever. Anywhere.

But hey, maybe this time it'll be alright.

Based on what? We have a better manager but we have a severely weakened squad compared to what started last season.

Being a WUM just comes naturally to me

Based on the fixtures?
If you compare our squad to last years, it’s most certainly weaker, and a couple of unknowns, as always with new signings. However, there are some positives as well compared to last year at this stage

- better fixture list to start
- VP - who majority believe to be a good manager will of had a full pre season to work with the players

I totally agree we’ve been abit foolish in the market, more so with the RWB position, but I wouldn’t be suprised to see 3/4 signings come through before end of the window.

If we don’t sign anyone else, then definitely this window will’ve been awful, but it’s the hope that kills you I guess

We'll definitely sign players and if they're the right players then long term that will be all that matters. The issue is the timing, they might all come late in the window. It's what I feared would happen when we changed our recruitment structure at the time we did. Again, long term it will hopefully be the right decision but we were essentially starting from scratch right at the start of the window.

The other issue will be certain players will wait until late in the window to evaluate their options and clubs will wait to accept bids depending on their own situations. Obviously in an ideal world every deal would be sown up before the start of pre season training but there's an element of it which is beyond our control.

I get the sentiment. But I feel these rules don’t necessarily apply in certain situations. The back up options I can sort of understand. We want to move the shite from our squad on and bring in players more suitable to the way we play - those types of deals may drag on a little longer. But we’ve known a RWB was required for weeks/months - and as it stands we’re two weeks out from our first game and don't have a viable option in a key area in the starting 11. That’s just not good enough. And if we bring someone in now, they’ll barely get any time with the manager etc.
