Wolves 2-3 Everton - verdict thread.

At 3-1 it felt like another Everton goal and would have got nastier. But we pulled one back and in a way Jeff/Fosun got off lightly
They get off extremely lightly, I think it’s more apathy with the fans.
I don’t go anymore and don’t miss it, why don’t I go?
1. Cost
2. Knowing we’re just existing
3. PL novelty has worn off
4. The club really doesn’t care as long as we come 17th
5. It’s all a bit boring

Can’t say I’ve missed not going. Putting that @jd1981 had made me think how much I’m saving by not going too. Probably spent an average of £30 a game on top of ticket price so that’s around £1200 saved and 5 hours+ per game life hours whatever you value that at. Fair saving to be more productive and less miserable!

Yep so much more enjoyable less costly stuff to do, I’m often in position to watch or keep track of the game but not going means not over spending or taking more time out my weekends.

Didn't want to post that much yesterday as I was really taken aback by the performance and attitude on display.

But looking back - we're in serious, serious trouble if these new signings don't work out. Thinking about it, we really need them ALL to work out. Quickly.

Semedo and RAN were integral. I'm not going to write off Jackson or Wolfe so early on, but they need to slot in and get used to the league so quickly.

Lopez looked good when he came on yesterday and needs to be starting - especially as we had zero creativity or flair whatsoever before he came on.

Arias clearly has some ability but again, we need to see an impact now - he didn't do anywhere near enough yesterday to give me any hope that he's the signing we need in such a vital area of the pitch. He needs to be contributing right now. Not in 5 games' time. If he's the Cunha replacement, we don't have time to allow him to get used to the Premier League.

Now, this wouldn't be as much of a problem if these new guys were surrounded by competent, PL quality team mates but it's as clear as day that the vast majority of the squad simply are not that.

I looked at our starting XI v Everton in our first PL game after promotion. Then I compared it to yesterday's XI. I don't think a single player from yesterday gets into that Wolves side from 7 years ago. How on earth is that even possible when we were a newly promoted club, and we're now in our 8th season in the richest league in the world?

I'd say it's mainly down to 5 years seriously incompetent transfer and recruitment policy.

Managed decline, sell high buy cheap. Lose Neto bring in Forbs, lose Cunha bring in Arias, lose RAN bring in Wolfe. Just some examples.
How many times have we bought in players in the last 5 years from other PL clubs?
Few and far between Dawson West Ham wanted rid fee was low, Johnstone one is still baffling.
Big reason is you often have to pay a bit higher to bring in PL players, so we go for cheaper unproven options.
It’s kept us above water until now but it means you end up with a lot of average joes, Hwang, JRB, S Bueno, Munetsi or project players. I’d put money on at least 2 of the new guys will join that list.
This summer was the big un as we lost our last remaining game changing player plus 1 very good LWB and a solid RWB.
Just watching Arsenal now just remember what the 18/19 side did to Arsenal at home in April 2019 and it wasn’t that big a shock either. Shameful self destruction by the club.

A scarily accurate summary of our situation. I wish I could counter with some optimism about the new signings we haven’t seen yet but the high probability is they’ll be short of the necessary standard, and even if they’re not it will take them half a season to get up to speed.

If just a couple of the likes of Traore, Santi Bueno, Doyle, Forbs and Djiga had been good enough they’d have had at least half a season to adapt and get up to speed but sadly they weren’t and we’re gambling that after a succession or poor signings we’re going to get nearly all of them right.

We nearly beat them away that year too. Led for ages and hit the bar at the death.

Only a point behind Villa 😊.
On the wrong end of a five goal thriller against one of the top six. 👍
