Wolves 2-3 Everton - verdict thread.

Hugo Bueno one of our best players and Santi Bueno being on a par with our other CBs tells you everything you need to know.

YW and Wilf have it spot on about Tchatchoua/Wolfe (with the early days caveat), they look like what they are; 3rd or 4th choice signings, and if the rest of our imminent signings and Krejci are the same then we're in big, big trouble

The most obvious contenders are the promoted sides. Currently Burnley are 3 points clear of us (and should have taken a point today) Leeds, who have picked up 4 points at home, and Sunderland who have 2 wins on the board already

You know at least two of them will probably each get 4-6 points off us as well, so we can factor that in 😅

I thought h Bueno was gash, did nothing other than lose the ball - tackles like an old man.

4 of the 8 we have conceded have come from us losing the ball in/around our own box. We don’t have the technical quality to play through a press, nor do we have the ball carriers to get us up the pitch. Regardless of who comes in before the end of the window there will not be three worse footballing sides than us. So it all hinges on whether VP can find a system to suit the dross at his disposal. Teams with lesser squads than ours have survived plenty of times but only when the gaffer has found a style to suit them and at the minute there isn’t one!

I don’t mind Wolfe. Seems like an okay footballer to me (great cross for the goal) and is more solid than Hugo.

But I get people’s concerns on him, he’s still a significant downgrade on Rayan and now we’re in a situation where all our full backs are interchangeable because they are just a mixture of averageness.

Losing Semedo as well as RAN is proving to be a huge issue for our defensive unit. Time working together would be welcome but I guess many are away on international duty. Despite his issues it’s strange to think Hoever is above Gomes after seeing the latter at least make some kine of an impact on the game yesterday.

Home now. Had time to think it over and calm down a bit.

And I still think we’re fucked, Vitor’s lost the plot and Jeff is a prick
A couple of renditions yesterday of “back the team, or sell the club” but I think most fans can’t even be bothered to be vocally angry. The atmosphere in the ground is absolutely on its arse.

By my maths at least 9 will be away for the break maybe more, International breaks at PL clubs are like a class at school when a handful of kids haven’t gone on a trip and left to do there own learning, don’t actually do much but are there because they have to be.

I mean, you could see Wolfe was way below the level required after about 30 minutes of his debut. I said as much and was told to “give him time”.

By the way, every time I say something like this, it isn’t me poking my tongue out and saying “told you so”. It’s more shining a light on those who are so quick to jump on any opinion when it doesn’t quite fall in line with theirs and labelling it “pant wetting” - but here we are. He’s an extremely average footballer and a huge downgrade on what we had. Exactly as I called it two weeks ago.

If it helps, I wish I was wrong and he was showing at least some sign of having… something about him!

In other news… Marshall Munetsi’s opening three games of the season, ladies & gents:

How Vítor is leaving him on for 90 minutes week in week out, I’ve no idea. This isn’t me trying to scapegoat him either. He’s trying - but he’s just not good enough to be playing as much as he is.

It could be worse, he could have the most touches and then we'd be really fucked

It was a very, very good assist yesterday.
Yep, cracking assist - not taking that away from him. But should be a player that we bring on to see a game out, or when we need some legs to press. NOT a starter who plays 90 minutes every week. It’s like we’re playing with 10 players sometimes. And yesterday, he couldn’t move after 70 minutes. Completely stupid that he was left on for the full 90.

This isn’t news.

It’s been the case ever since he joined the club and we were actually winning games.

This is a screenshot I took last year laughing about him in a group chat. Fullkrug, Soler and Alvarez came on at HT and Guilherme and Ferguson came off at HT.

Munetsi is the type of player a half decent team would make use of, he has a limited skill set but is good and getting into goal scoring positions but we don't play in a way that is going to make that happen enough to make it worthwhile having him in the team.

He isn't particularly good defensively, often a yard away from where he should be and he doesn't have any recovery speed. He presses well in the opponents half but it doesn't result in much.

He isn't very good with the ball, his touch is poor and I have seen no evidence he can pass the ball to a teammate with his Hwang levels of control.

Players like Munetsi demonstrate why the transfer market is so fucked up at the moment. In the good old days, Munetsi would have commanded a fee of a set of footballs, maybe some nets and a packet of toffees.

Rather than invented new ways to screw over smaller clubs wit financial regulations, the governing body should fix the transfer system to stop abuses like multi-million Munetsi being inflicted on clubs. No idea how they would do it, but start with a packet of toffees and work up to Ferrero Rocher.

At 3-1 it felt like another Everton goal and would have got nastier. But we pulled one back and in a way Jeff/Fosun got off lightly

Have to say I'm worried about Tchatchoua. He's going to come up against a winger like Grealish every week in this league, he can't just back off everyone like he did yesterday, he needs to be braver.

I'm not completely down on everything else as I think our team will look completely different in a few weeks and there are clearly players who are still adapting but yesterday was a fairly lifeless performance. All 3 goals we conceded were awful and I hope Mosquera & Krejci come into the team soon. All 3 of our back line were completely passive all game and the 2nd goal in particular was rancid defending.

I don't see what he offers which we didn't have already from R Gomes. Neither are particularly good defenders, both are very quick - Gomes seems to have more end product.

He's got that "throw him on for the last 15 minutes when you're chasing the game, and hope" vibe about him. Not the sort of player you want on from the start because you know he'll be a liability, with the occasional moment or two of 'magic' (fluke) sprinkled in. A poor man's Adama Traoré, if you will. These are the sorts of players who come to Wolves now, just got to accept it. We're very much in the decline phase of the Fosun empire.
