Wolves 2-3 West Brom: Verdict Thread

Something is really wrong. And I don’t even mean the tactics (which were crap anyway). The mentality to something going wrong is embarrassing. Absolute capitulation. That’s on the coach, who looks a bit lost right now. It’s gonna take something big to rectify it too.

Thought we had it won at 2-1 despite being awful and still Managed to lose...

Shambles

We do have the air of a West ham-esq slide down the table. We need to do something.

The owners have to back Nuno in the market now, even with players coming back we're still short of quality and we'll lose Nuno and others if we aren't careful. What a sloppy performance, glimpses of quality isn't enough. A proper finisher might help make us at one end of the pitch but we have just as many issues at the back which won't be fixed by players coming back

Nobody can mention injuries anyway. They were without Gallagher, Diangana and Johnstone. Now West Brom are a dreadful side anyway but without those 3 how you contrive to lose to them is an absokute joke we are in huge danger of getting sucked right into that relegation scrap we are a very very bad football team.

Relegation fight now, must win 4 games to stay up. Don’t know if they can do that. Defense is crap and No offense at all. Silva has to be benched and a striker got in window

Make no mistake, we are going to be in a relegation fight with defensive performances like that.
Will we win another game!

Huge game for both clubs and we fell well short of what was needed.
Two soft penalties notwithstanding that was a really poor second half by Wolves.
We look to have a soft centre. No fight. No belief. Coasting along.
Still half the season left but some decisive action needed from Nuno. Does he have the drive and the appetite?

We're so fucking passive and scared, in and out of possession. We're an absolute bastard mess at the moment. We've gone from being solid and exciting, to a fucking shambles.

Albion are utter, utter shit. They're terrible. They've just beaten us, and probably had the better chances too.

I'm off to give my head a wobble

No cohesion. No ideas. No adventure. Slow, predictable. Boring. Second to everything. Weak.

Nuno looks like a broken man who doesn’t want to be here. How are the players supposed to look at a man who’s sat on his arse showing no passion or fight from the sidelines for leadership? Genuinely concerned about his mental state and also with the impact it’s having on us as a club.

Substitutions made zero difference (again).

Every single one of them were pathetic today. Silva was ‘ok’ - that’s as good as it got. Moutinho is supposed to be a leader and was dreadful. Neves was dreadful. Coady was dreadful. No leaders anywhere - no fight.

I got laughed at a couple of weeks ago for suggesting we *could* be dragged in to a relegation fight. Well we’re in one. We are 10 points above the bottom three and Fulham (in 18th) have three games in hand on us. One win in nine is relegation form and we’re a million miles away from putting any sort of run together.

Can’t believe we’ve just lost to that shower.
Ait Nouri improved us but MGW and Cutrone were rubbish, MGW in particular.

We're our own worst enemies, we look passive. We have good players but they're playing so far below their potential.

Amazingly we find out that we knew what we always knew! Morgan Gibbs White is not good enough. Patrick Cutrone is not good enough. And now we’re going to do no more business in the transfer window. A depressingly awful season.

So - to an extent we were unlucky today. Their goals were a penalty which was on the edge/outside the area, a header where they elbowed one of our players in the face, and a penalty with no contact at all until he was almost on the floor. They had no chances at all apart from that.

we scored a couple of good goals and created some really good opportunities. Having said that, no shots on target in the second half from those opportunities is not good enough.

I thought the front 3 were pretty good, but the midfield three were very poor. Donk in particular - why are we encouraging him to push forward when he’s fucking awful at it? If he’s not there to spanner it wide consistently, someone else might be who can shoot. Put MGW in there, at least he can shoot and has enough technique to supply someone else.

really disappointed. Shit result. Not enough character second half.

Anyone saying Nuno can go though, can fuck right off.

Few decent individual performances, thought Fabio Silva had a decent game and battled for the ball a lot more. Semedo was decent too. Traore bright (even if wrong decisions were made at points) but far too much was asked of him. Overall it’s shit.

Even if you ignore it being a derby (which is hard to do), losing to that weak a West Brom team at home is unacceptable. Don’t think they scraped past us either, they looked dangerous and were good value for a result overall even if we did have some chances. We do have a healthy point advantage but this game and the performances of late suggests relegation dogfight. Really hope it’s not the case.

Tactical thinking was all disjointed. A lot of half-measures, I am guessing Saiss was at LB to help with set pieces, but it really hurts the width. If Nuno wanted him, Boly, and Coady all to start then just do a back three and play Ait-Nouri at left-back, think that would have helped give us some width and provide Neto with an option as often he looked isolated especially first-half. Back four was disjointed, passing options restricted and when one of the two centre-halves was actually up against Robinson I thought they struggled a lot, they could have had a bit more luck running at us if they were so inclined. Dendoncker still being played as the most advanced midfielder is annoying. He was offering options for link-up but he misses good chances repeatedly, as we can expect – why is Nuno forcing him into that role? Leander gets criticised pretty much every game he plays, hanging him out to dry by expecting something that he isn’t capable of. Subbing off Coady was pretty shocking, felt like a knee-jerk. Hard to work out intentions and formations from subs. Do we have any idea of how we want to play anymore?

This might be a bit hyperbolic and I’m not equating the magnitude of results, but there are similarities to the last time we lost to West Brom at home, when Mick chose some random team with three strikers starting and a paper thin midfield that was tactically abject. We chucked some players on the pitch and hoped some individual quality would produce something. Something deeply wrong currently.

MGW tried to get things going but it just didn’t come off at all.

cutrone had such a golden chance. Gutted

You could maybe accept that sort of performance if Albion played out of their skins. They didn't. We gave away two stupid penalties from our own inability to keep or clear the ball (Traore and Neves) and let them score from a throw in.

At no stage after they went 2-3 up did I ever think we were going to get back in the game. Four at the back has to be scrapped and go back to attempting some sort of defensive solidity. Make no mistake after this we are in a relegation scrap, as confidence appears to be shot and Nuno currently doesn't appear to be able to sort it.

It's up to the manager to do that and Nuno is showing no sign that he can change things.

Basically, the club failed last summer. Very poor player management. We have to stop going to the Portugal well for players, unfortunately what we have gotten lately is not good. Silva would struggle in the MLS and would not be even playing in the German league. Our player quality and performance is in the toilet.
