Wolves League of Nations

I feel like choosing Afobe for Congo is almost cheating. He was English for us!

Hahnemann (USA)

Foley (Ireland)
Berra (Scotland)
Boly (France)
Ricketts (Wales)

Saiss (Morocco)
Neves (Portugal)
Milijas (Serbia)

Sako (Mali)
Bonatini (Brazil)
Jarvis (England)

I would have put Douglas at LB but I needed Berra to stave off some horrific CB options. My first game was about four months after Lescott left.

Anyone who saw all of Bully's and Lescott's Wolves careers and picks the latter needs their bumps felt.
I don't think you can deny though that Lescott's career took place at a much higher level of play than Bull's, however important he was for the club.

Yep, away from Wolves though. Bully could have played at a similar level and chose not to which ultimately cost him International caps. The financial incentive to play at the top level wasn't the same in Bully's time as Lescott's though, he earnt the same playing for us as he would have at any Prem team outside the top 3 or 4

We don't actually know if Bull would have been successful at that level.

Mate, don't talk about things you don't understand.
You cannot know for sure that he would have been successful because he never had a run at that level. He might have been, he might not have been.

My point is it's not fair to the people who picked Lescott to just say "well Bully would have been that good". We'll never know for sure.

IMO if you're going to come at me over that then you're wearing serious rose colored glasses.

Bull played at a world cup mate, and was very good there. He was MORE than good enough for the top flight.

You never saw him play and you don't understand the landscape of football in this country in say, 1990 because you weren't around.

Please, just stop.

Whatever. If you want to be so rudely dismissive that's your own business.

I will be rudely dismissive about your opinion of a footballer you never saw, when I saw over 60% of the games he played in a Wolves shirt first hand. It's you who's being rudely dismissive of a lot of peoples' opinions here, not me of yours.

I'm not being rude, I'm telling you you're wrong and you should stop digging.

Tell you what, pick your own specialist subject, preferably one where I have zero knowledge whatsoever of context or history. I dunno, Star Wars will do being as I have no interest in it whatsoever and have half-watched one of the films, ever. Then make a statement about which film is best. Then I'll tell you that you're misguided, pick an alternative choice and say that you can't know for sure that you know better than I do.

I don't think you'd be that receptive.

I wouldn't tell you that you don't know what you're talking about. Not straight up from the off. It's not on.

Pad is the only one who responded with anything that sounds to me like a point and not just "shut up".

Have a look at Bullys goals for England on YouTube. That gives an idea of what he would have been like at a higher level

I can understand why you think the way you do but bully was special. If you saw him when he was at the peak of his powers you'd understand.

It's also why, in my opinion, the older parts of the crowd like to gerrit forward - when bully played that's how we won

Go on then. Tell me everything you know about Steve Bull, given the video archive publicly available isn't exactly extensive, and we can compare that to the first hand evidence stacked up by those of us who went to games regularly between 1986 and 1993 (I'd say they were his peak years).

Please also tell me all about the gap between the top two tiers in around 1990 and an examination of the top 15-20 forwards in the First Division at the time, and how they stacked up to Steve Bull. And how the style of football that was prevalent would or wouldn't have suited him. I can do all that, you can't. That's not a slight on you, it's a fact.

You're trying to frame a debate when you don't have access to the source material. And hiding behind "you don't know for sure" is no kind of argument. None of us can say for sure that Ryan Giggs would be a terrible Prime Minister. We can have a fair idea though.

Sometimes you don't know better than someone else, you have to accept that. In my example you would be right to tell me to shut up and that I don't know what I'm talking about, because I don't, quite clearly.

I haven't said I know better than anyone, only that the comparison between Lescott and Bull shouldn't be made on hypotheticals.

Someone touched a nerve.
