Sorry it's not saving the formatting - Worked out by teams points total versus the top 6 up until 31/03/19 - Put it in it's own thread.

Points points v top 6 adjusted
Watford 43 3 40
Everton 43 5 38
Leicester 44 7 37
AFCB 38 3 35
Wolves 44 10 34
West Ham 42 8 34
Newcastle 35 3 32
Crystal Palace 36 5 31
Brighton 33 4 29
Burnley 33 4 29
Cardiff City 28 0 28
Southampton 33 8 25
Fulham 17 0 17
Huddersfield 14 0 14

Mods can someone check where it's not implementing the formatting I did on the post or explain how I can make it look less of a mess?

Its fine to read.

At the end of the day, I don't actually get the point. Let's leave out all the points against the big boys where we have done well and stare in horror that our table position has dropped.

We are seventh over 30-odd matches, and that is ALL that counts.

I wasn't actually involved in the discussion on the other page. I just like tables and spreadsheets. The above to me just backs up what I say is the parity of the league.

In terms of the all time Premier league table we are still well down the bottom in among Burnley and Bournemouth. Having finished bottom twice and stayed up on GD during 3 of our 4 total prem campaigns. This year has been giddy for me personally.

So what am I looking at? 40 - 3 - 40... What does it mean? Some explanation for someone who needs help with this sort of shizzle

First number is total points. 2nd is points versus top 6. And then 3rd number is points total minus the top 6 points. So points versus the rest.

Like I say - what does it prove?

Leaving out points we have won is a bit odd.

So it conclusively shows that the bottom three have nil points collectively this season v the top six which completely vindicates my stance that if we really are aiming to make it a sky7 then we need to stop losing or dropping points to the worst teams as,c this year, none of the sky 6 have.

A plus is that a side for whatever reason, that over performs against us in recent history, Huddersfield, are gone. The bad news is another who we have a bit of a dodgy recent record against , Norwich two wins in the last 11 meetings, are on the way up. Still let's hope we don't play them in November ! In 2017 we won all four of our November games. They remain our only November wins since 2014! But that's another thread!

Damn us not being as good as the top six inside 9 months of promotion.

Yeah ok... I really don't think that's the point, but good wasted sarcasm...

It's a relevant point though. People are expecting the earth and we've not even completed our first season back in the top flight.

this for me is a completely pointless exercise. there is no premier league without the top six, there is no premier league without lucky wins, fluke losses or just the team having a shit day.
First season back in the prem we are SEVENTH!!!!!!, in the Fa cup semi final, and playing great football for the first time in years.
Please don't anyone wake me up, this is THE DREAM.
personally i don't think we will hold on to 7th place, but frankly my dear, i don't give a damn!

This thread makes the cricket thread look a useful read :)

Not sure how useful this is as the 'top 6' are still there for now so we all still have to play them twice

We all know that we haven't taken as many points as we would want of the bottom 3 & that's a problem to solve next season

I understand the premise of the thread, but I would have thought that those that complain we are poor against crap teams would rather see how we have done against the bottom six rather than the bottom 13, if that's possible.

I already showed that on a another thread. Still got the usual responses.

You see we have to balance this seasons expectations with this seasons actuals. The majority on here thought we would finish top ten. So if that happens we have only achieved as anticipated. That's despite most of us thinking its a wonderful season. Previously we were happy just to stay up. That's the thing for me. The performances against the poor sides are easier to identify with our previous premier experience whereas the performances against the better sides , top 6, are akin to where we want to be.

I wasn't involved in the initial discussions on the match thread. I saw the match day thread about whatever that was about, mentioned this and then made it. It's offered without my own context in large.

For me it at least shows the perspective I have always had, that the Premier league is a league of parity for the most part. The gap between Watford and Palace could be swung with one of two wins over the other sides meaning the points swing in your favour and them then having 3 less, would have a biggish change on the landscape.

Personally I have utterly loved this season, but I have had a nagging feeling in the back of my mind about what would happen if we didn't get the results versus the top 6 next year, but continued the poor form versus the bottom 3. However teams do seem to take points versus the top 6, with the exception of the relegated sides. I do worry a tad about the inability to break down sides at time.

Well we have got 35 points from 22 games against the bottom 13 by my calculations.

So over 1.5 points a game. It's hardly relegation material.
